OXO Being X’d Off - Replacement Help Needed

I’m pitching all my OXO kitchen utensils after discovering that the gripper part of the handle holds water which then molds/mildews. 🤢

I have spatulas and spoonulas from Thermoworks that are one piece. I need a spoon and a pancake flipper that are one piece. Thermoworks doesn’t sell anything but spatulas and spoonulas. Could someone direct me to a good source for seamless kitchen utensils, please?

Water's getting into all of the handles? That's never happened to me and I have a lot of Oxo utensils. Love the pancake turner. Could you caulk the handles? :)

I like our Cuisinart utensils a lot. This is the style.

Oakley, it seems to have happened all of a sudden. It could be that I just started noticing it. Or it could be that they are old and whatever seal there was has failed. I have a knife, two spoons (slotted and solid) and two pancake turners (different shaped slots) and they are all going in the trash! I put all kitchen utensils in the dishwasher. I don’t know if caulking would hold up, but I’m not going to try it.

My favorite pancake turner is Ekco brand, but that might be difficult to find anymore. It is similar to this Di Oro Spatula.

These are the spoons I have in Cathedral City. They came with the house and work fine for me, but I'm not crazy about the pancake turner.

The ONLY turner that I can even stand is a Matfer.....I bought them at Surly Table, but they dont carry them anymore, so I had to go to Amazon. I bought a look alike at a ritzy kitchen shop, and it is just a tad too flimsy, so if I have to coax a burger off the plan, it bends and won’t work. The Matfers are perfect!!! ETA link:

Looking forward to hear recs. Had a funny thing happen just yesterday. I have an old Calphalon spatula that I always reach for. It’s very basic but I like the handle I like the size I like the angle I like the shape I like that it hasn’t melted on me after all these years. I always reach for it over others, even if it’s dirty in the dishwasher and needs a hand wash. Finally decided to look for more, not avail of course. Found one on eBay (set with a slotted), used, slightly damaged possibly from grill... for $20! You kidding me?? Mentioned it to my wife and she “saved” the item and next thing I got an offer, 95% off! $1 plus $5.40 shipping. That sounded more reasonable so I bought it. Next thing I get an email from the seller that “of course” it was a mistake so she cancelled the sale and refunded my money. It was supposed to have been reduced from $20 to $19. Apparently worn old spatulas are worth more than new. 🙄

Anyway, yeah, I have to remember to empty my Oxo garlic press, too.

I have the Cuisinart one Allison posted, I like it a lot. Of course, the handle of mine is very melted.....

I have a lot of OXO and never had that happen! Yuck! I have a lot of Progressive, Joseph Joseph and Zyliss products I like too, but since I haven't had the problem, I don't know if these are any better.

In August I ordered this garlic press rocker. If one can love a garlic press, I do. It's used at least 2x a week. You roll the green piece to remove the skin. I don't recall getting the knife, but use the one I'm cutting with anyway.

Two weeks ago, I bought this permanent cone filter for DH's coffeemaker. Better than the gold filters he's been using (the screen tears after awhile).

Or... Maybe fix the OXO’s up with some bleach, and set them out on a drainer or towel to get hard dry before puttinG them away?

Not a bad idea, plllog, but too late. Already in the trash. I have a low tolerance for avoidable-ick. Some ick is unavoidble, like cleaning out the garbage disposer and cleaning the ick that gathers at the front of the dishwasher. Unavoidable ick , I put on big girl panties and deal with it. Avoidable ick, I avoid.

My OXO utensils are 15 years old, at a minimum. I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of them.

FOAS, your description of your spatula reminds me of something that I read recently. I can’t remember if it were here or somewhere else, but the gist was “you know you are an adult, when you realize you have a favorite eye on the stove.” And I do! I think a favorite spatula is the equivalent! btw, each side of my non-OXO garlic press is a single piece of metal, so no handle to hold water.

Springroz, is “Surly Table” autocorrect or your feelings about the store? It made me actually laugh out loud. The spatula that you linked, looks like a “fish spatula.” I do not have one of those, but I’ve heard they are a must have for a well-equipped kitchen.

Lars, what do you dislike about the spatula at the CC house? Is it flimsy? I found a set on Williams-Sonoma that looked good, but one buyer noted that the “neck” was so flimsy that it broke on the first use. The spatula and spoonula (btw, I hate the term “spoonula”) from Thermoworks seems to have a metal skeleton under the silicone. They are heavy and tough!

I hate the OXO pancake turner I had. The DiOro line of spatulas are all one piece, however, their turners are not. Here is a link to a set of the turners I have; I also have their spatulas and love them. DiOro Turners

    'Surly Table', lol, 😂

I liked my local store but it closed. Really nice staff. On-line is odd and a bit more than odd...I have two items that have been on back order for two years, 😂 (double that lol)...I was charged and they keep asking for reviews but I still do not have the items. Both items are solid spatulas. (one is wood)...oh, and a top knob replacement for a cast iron staub chicken knob. . (a gift for my SIL)...she moved from a farm setting wanting to add chickens then moved to a city setting...

Odd, 5-6 years ago, just when I thought we had a basic good quality set-up, anything metal/stainless connected to silicone/plastic started to fall apart. Knives we have had for years...even a set of quality ceramic pans started to chip....oy. I sympathize with junk purchase frustrations.

OXO I don't consider junk but they are odd in my hand. The 'fish scale' rubbery handles need too sit out for 4-6 hours to completely dry out. Any moisture remaining if put away in your drawer will mold.

I did post my favorites a few years ago...no time now to dig that out.

My problem with some of the oxo products like a turner is that if the black silicone heats up, it leaves a nasty residue on my hand. My favorite turner is made by Winco and has a wood handle. Sadly, that means it does not go in the dishwasher but it's my favorite so I deal. The Get-It-Right company makes turners that are supposed to be all one piece. I have not tried their products yet, but I hope to soon. That is where I intend to replace my stock of silicone spatulas, etc. I also hope to get one of their single piece silicone pastry brushes. I will probably order one of these days when my current pastry brush comes apart, again.

BTW, if you want investment grade, you can't beat Rösle. They have a few different lines. Excellent quality.

I happen to love my flexible OXO turners, but I hear the frustration. :)

My OXO turner was just too, too flexible. When I would be ready to flip a pancake and slide the turner under it and lifted the turner up, it flexed downward very, very quickly and the pancake would slide off. Very ineffective for a pancake turner, IMO, and experience.

For the last few years whenever I need a new kitchen utensil I look on Amazon. There is usually one of each item that has thousands of great reviews, I let this guide me to the best choice.

OTOH, my OXO flexible turner is the best for fried eggs. :) And my bigger one is great for crepes. I think WalnutCreek has a point about the pancakes. For those, I prefer a slotted turner so they don't stick. I use one my father bought decades ago. I think it was in their camping supplies. Works great. :)

What I don't like about the pancake turner at the CC house is that the edge is not tapered properly, and so it is difficult to get under things. The Ekco turner has a much better taper at its leading edge, thus making it easier to turn pancakes and lift omelets.

For future reference, avoid putting your utensils in the dishwasher. I've had many of my utensils for many many years...still good as new. Just a thought....
