I wouls suggest you get some nice new bedding with some color in it. I love paisleys for sure and then choose a color from the bedding for the walls and the chair needs a pillow that is a color and the table needs a table lamp and the floor lamp can go somwhere else I think you also need new lights for the sconces those are too small and really in the wrong position so something on a swing arm

Blue would be nice with the wood tone and rust chair. Bring home lots of paint chips though with different undertones.

Be sure to layer the bedding and aim for a simple classic look but with lovely cushions

The wall sconces are not large enough or in the right location. I’d repair wall before painting and add lamps on the nightstands to create more interest as well as better balance and proportion.

Regarding sitting area, it’s too lined up. Place chair on an angle (opposite to below) and create a sort of corner vignette. The painting is not working and use a smaller/lighter piece to the right of the chair, so it relates the the seating - per below. Also suggest rearranging the shelving to better compliment room and reading area - could be really attractive

Can you take more pics of the reading nook. It's hard to say how to lay it out with just the one picture.

What colors do you like? Color is very personal, and no one can choose that for you. It looks like you have neutral dark furniture and a tan carpet, so you can use almost anything on the walls - light blue, green, aqua, pink, peach, etc. For the reading area, angle the chair so the ottoman can be placed in front of it to be useful.

@njmomma I find Pinterest is a really great resource, you/your daughter can start a search by a specific room, can even narrow down to a style or color, etc and one thing leads to another. A friend of mine bought a 120 year old house and redid it entirely. It’s absolutely beautiful and she did not use a pro, only Pintetest for inspiration and ideas.
