Throw down a decorative area rug that covers this up and sets off the item that is sitting on top of the area (I can see dark wood legs).

I need to see where this is in the space and IMO I never like wall to wall carpet anywhere .

Thanks for the comment. You can see the door (one corner of the room) and the old carpeting along the wall, under the furniture. It’s about 2x10 feet. I included a little bit of the hallway flooring, which is a hardwood. (I can’t tell if my picture is showing up so I’ll add to the original post)

You could probably find a pretty hallway runner that you could put underneath the furniture to hide the issue. It is simple and elegant/appropriate solution with a rather small purchase price.

Or you can remove the carpet and pick another product and have it installed. It is a permanent remedy with a higher price tag.

Can you find a very similar color and style carpet? If carpet in closet is big enough, I would have a pro take it out and patch where missing piece is. I would then put new carpet in closet. Or you could take out strip from under bed. Carpet doesn't last forever.

Getting new dressers without legs to cover up the mismatched piece would be less expensive, probably, than trying to replace all the carpet. Personally? I'd put the current dresser/tall boy in a different room, get inexpensive replacements as a temporary fix until you're ready to re-do the flooring entirely.

Agree with Patricia--wall-to-wall carpet is not a great option for the bedroom. Re-do the room with hardwood flooring (or see if there is hardwood underneath the carpet that can be refinished). Then get a pretty area rug.

I would just find a rug (maybe a runner) to put under your furniture. It's the quickest, least expensive fix!

Too bad you/your realtor didn't catch this at final walk-through, as the sellers should have paid to straighten things out! :( I think stealing from a closet or other hidden spot is your best bet. Or if it's really new, you might be able to get more from the same source.

Do you know how old the carpet is? You may be able to find some that is nearer the color of the entire floor to patch the light spot. Otherwise, I would take a piece out of the closet OR cut a piece or two from under the bed and have a professional patch it..

what on earth were they covering? what's under those pieces? was there a leak?

or did a closet used to be there and they removed it?

And that's pretty shady of the sellers not to notify anyone. I'd contact the realtor on this one.

There was a giant mirrored closet/armoire that was fixed to the wall that they left behind. After we moved in, we had it taken out so that’s when we discovered the old carpet. We didn’t feel like they were intentionally hiding the issue, but thank you for the advice— I’m sure that does happen to many people!

ah, ok. that makes sense. So then YOU put down the mismatched pieces?

yeah, just remove any of the same carpet from any of the closets. for the closet, put down a tile or something else
