I think I’d do other things around the space and leave cabinets be : w exception maybe a thin molding strip across the top. Don’t think the aesthetic needs even that though. Get a floor runner or couple mats w color and pattern. A lighting plan review might be in order. As far as backsplash how about some color -texture -pattern or combination . Do you have preferences? It’s a straight run : easy /bring in samples.

Your kitchen would look better painted white. The gray paint just accentuates the fact that the cabinets don’t go up to the ceiling. Some nice decorative objects would be nice on there.

You’ve done a really nice job. If you don’t need the extra cabinet space, you could save some money and have a contractor do something like this:

Re : backsplash . If this were mine I’d get a blue and white or maybe (blue and tan or taupe ) patterned square tile. Color and pattern right there at eye level. If you do not like color or pattern try mother of pearl tile. The bit of glimmer will be nice w hardware and yet it’s not a bold tile... creams and whites ... a lot of dimension. You should go to a tile store and browse.

Hi S- I don't don't what your needs are. I can't imagine anyone that doesn't need more kitchen storage. If you do, I would build more cabinets above your existing one. Even if they are only cabinets to house larger trays and serving dishes.

The most important thing though which you neglected in your remodel is that you don't have a proper hood vent over your stove.

You need a proper hood vent that vents to the exterior. That is far more important than any cosmetic things you are considering.

Is that an exterior wall? If so, that can be done without too much difficulty.

if you cook food that is aromatic, and I am guessing that you do, it is even more important.

The little fan on the bottom of your microwave is woefully inadequate.

Please remove your microwave and the cabinet above it and get a proper hood vent that vents to the outside.

You can find another place for your microwave.

Please discuss this with a kitchen contractor.

And maybe not the same kitchen contractor you used before, because he should have told this to you.

@loobab good point thought it’s an interior wall shared with neighbors. We’re in townhouses. Though the cosmetic look of that would indeed be nice

I love the idea about doing a double stack cabinet since it will make your kitchen look a bit larger.

these are from another poster on here that I advised to do it with hers.

creates a big diff. Yours wouldn't be that much more to do but would have a nice impact. you could also opt to do glass doors, light the inside and display pottery or whatever.

I think you could pick a diff backsplash tile. that one is rather taupe-y colored.

w/your dark wood floors, why don't you look into the Calacatta marble? the warmer tones play w/the flooring and will look great w/all the white

I did the larger subway tiles in my own kitchen,

but you could choose the same herringbone mosaic (Like your mushroom colored one you have pictured) if you like.

And the calacatta looks great w/the gold hardware.

maybe do two gold pendents over the peninsula area

bring in some nice stools, and most importantly, a runner!

look how pretty the rug, the wood floor and the calacatta (Not carrara!) looks together!

get a nice runner like this, and you're set. (notice the double cabs here)

you have plain white cabs/countertops and a plain wood floor. doing a plain taupe color tile would send it into yawnsville, as would a white subway tile. so thanks for not picking that one!

if you don't like the calacatta marble idea, I could show you 500 other options that would be the cherry on top in there.

but for sure do the added cabs on top, and look for a cool runner

btw, if you'd rather have the cooler tone marble, here's a Statuario marble subway tile. has more distinct veining than the carrara. notice the upper cabs too.

paint grade plywood for the boxes. materials are cheap. cab guy could make these in a day

Over the fridge, you could do a wine rack or open book/sheet pan storage. It would prob be cheaper than doing a cabinet w/a door

Wow, those marble backsplashes look great, and you get so many more square feet of storage with the extra cabinets on top, how wonderful!
