Please suggest best coffee table for recliner sofa

last modified: 4 years ago

I am struggling to find a coffee table for my recliner sofa. The existing one needs to be constantly moved whenever we recline the sofa. It’s not convenient to get up every time and move the coffee table to accommodate the extra length when reclined. Please help. thank you.

The laws of nature being what they are, I don’t know how a coffee table could ever work well with a recliner. Seems to me that a side table is the only good option.

When we had a reclining sofa we had a square coffee table & turned it so that one of the corners was facing the sofa. That put it closer to the center seat of the sofa but allowed room for the reclining end seats to be reclined. We had 2 of the reclining sofas placed in the room like a sofa & a love seat. This allowed both sofas to recline with out moving the coffee table.

When we had a reclining sofa, we got rid of the coffee table and didn’t have room for side table(s). So I bought a large ottoman tray that lived on the center non-movable cushion of the sofa and could be shuffled to sit on one of the large arms as needed. Worked great for our needs and made a nice landing zone for remotes, charging cords, phones, drinks, shared bowl of popcorn, whatever.

    @littlebug zone 5 Missouri lol..I hear you!

@girlnamedgalez8a interesting!! I am guessing you have reclining ends but center seat is non-reclining. It would not work for me because I have recliner sectional with two reclining seats and one chaise.

None. A side table is all.

Which is why these never work : ) Sorry, hate them.

These are easy to move around and come in lots of sizes and styles.

We used chair side tables which are just narrow end tables with enough room for a lamp and room for your coffee or drink. Had a coffee table but it was just a pest so got rid of it. In some instances I think the C table would be ideal.

Do just the ends recline or the middle also? It makes a difference. Both of my sofas just have the end recliners and I have coffee tables that don’t need to be moved.

You can't use a coffee table with it. Just use end tables instead.

Do side arm tables. It won’t solve the problem for the one who sits in the middle of the sofa...

Jinx, I just saw your suggestion…where did you find the side table with the drink holders?

Who ever came up with that design deserves a Pulitzer (if there is one for home furnishing).

Judy, I saw it on a Pinterest page that said it was from IKEA ... but I don’t see it on their site currently. If I come across it, I’ll post a link. It’s such a great idea!

Thanks, Jinx, Not only great for the OP’s dilemma, but it works for every seat which can’t support a side table. Love!

@Daisy S uploaded the pic of my recliner. The chaise is startup art and two seats recline.

@Jilly haha...no offense but I do think they look boxy and bulky.. But the one I have is modern sleek type. It has low profile and head rests are adjustable. I uploaded a pic for reference :) I settled for this but struggling to find a coffee table. Thanks for great suggestions.

I also have a reclining sofa (just got) and am struggling with the same issue. I was looking at a round pedestal coffee table that is a big higher then normal. With the base smaller it allows for the reclining. You just have to make sure that the height of the foot rests on the sofa are under the height of the top of the table. Hope you find something - post pics when you do for the rest of us!

Some coffee tables come with wheels now. I've just ordered a recliner with chaise similar to yours and plan to use that option.

Michelle and LisaD, From where and what model reclining sofa/sectional did you order?

Curious. I have my coffee table set far enough away the foot rests don't hit it when reclined. Works just fine. We also have side tables.

    COVID Pic.
