Is this range installed correctly?

It only took me five years (??!) to notice this gap on the side of my range. It makes me think that the granite company we used when we built the house may not have correctly accommodated the range. Do you think the stretcher behind the range should be narrower so that this range can be slid back another inch or so?

You may need a backguard depending on the wall composition (under the tile) and the BTUh that the range can generate heating the wall. Note @foodonastump's image of the cut-out table.

@Joseph Corlett, just spoke to the installers we used for our counters. The current stretcher is 3 inches in width. They are staying it can't be cut any narrower than that without losing the integrity of the stone. Does that sound right?

If so, wonder if I have any other options?
