Need help with furnace

Hi. Can someone please help me get to the bottom of why my Daikin DM97MC furnace stops working? Note, I have spoken with tech support, warranty and home owner support at Daikin and none have been even remotely helpful. I have also had multiple technicians over multiple times and the problem still happens. The problem is that the furnace will just stop working. When this happens, I see an error code of "8.8." in red letters in the window at the bottom. I have found that I can get it working again by flipping the breaker off, opening the upper panel, flipping the red switch on the thing that says "Honeywell" off, waiting 10 seconds, turning the red switch back on, closing the panel and flipping the breaker back on. About 30 seconds later, it starts up again. The sound it makes as it starts up again might not be good. It is more of a pulse while I would expect it to be more steady. There might possibly be some audible sloshing around at that point as well. Note, the last contractor I had over said I shouldn't have to turn the red switch on and off to start it up, but I tested that today and it does indeed need to be turned off and on to get the thing going again.

If anybody could please tell me what the "8.8." error code means, I would really appreciate it. I've done an exhaustive search online and can't find error codes for this unit. Furthermore, if someone can tell me what needs to be done to fix this, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Update: I observed this more with the upper panel open. The pulsing sound coincides with the burner flames pulsing stronger and weaker. I did some searching and believe the red switch I needed to reset is for the gas valve. Although it does not seem to be for furnaces, a list for Daikin equipment indicates "8.8." error code might be for "shortage of gas". Can anyone confirm this and let me know what should be done to fix it?

Here's a video of the concerning sounds and pulsing burners:

It can be seen at the end that "88" is not on the list of error codes on the panel.

I watched the video you posted. I am not familiar with the Daiken DM97MC furnace. However to my untrained ear it doesn't sound good. This is a modulating furnace so it sounds the gas value is modulating constantly.

Error code 88 is for a Daiken chiller and not a furnace. You may be misinterpreting the code, or it the code it is displaying is corrupted for some reason. The furnace keeps a history of error codes. A tech who knows how to read them will be able to troubleshoot the problem.

This looks like a relatively new furnace. Are you the original owner? If it is under warranty then you need to call a competent Daiken dealer to asses the problem. If there is no Daiken dealer then call a competent service tech. The last guy seems to have no clue as to what is the problem.

Thanks, Mike. The Daikin dealer that installed it went out of business before finishing the install. There's at least one other Daikin dealer here but they have a 3 month lead time! Some of it is trying to mop up the mess of the other Daikin dealer that went out of business. The furnace is new and under warranty, but Daikin has been extremely unhelpful in this. I've had two non-Daikin service techs over to work on this but I agree they don't seem to have much of a clue. I will keep trying.

You need a pro "in person". This is not DIY.

If that means waiting... that's what it means.

I service the Katy, Texas area... currently there is very little waiting.

Did you find out what caused the problem? We need to get a new HVAC system and are thinking of putting in a Daikin heat pump and furnace. This doesn't look good, and the lack of response from Daikin is especially troubling.

Both the heat pump and furnace have to be Daikin in order for the thermostat to work. I don't like being locked into one brand like that.

Daikin or any other brand is a manufacturer, they don't service & repair or install equipment that falls on the HVAC contractor that you chose to install it.

If the contractor you chose goes bankrupt, find another HVAC contractor. It could cost you money as if the contractor you originally chose didn't install it properly there is no warranty from the manufacturer or anyone for an improper installed machine.

Warranty only covers a failed part. It doesn't cover labor costs, refrigerant, freight charges, testing and diagnosing charges and so on. If you bring in a different HVAC contractor that isn't resposible for this job, they are going to charge you to fix it.

Daikin, nor any other brand is going to pay for any of that listed above. If you go to the Daikin website they may have a list of HVAC contractors in your area to choose from.

"Daikin or any other brand is a manufacturer, they don't service & repair or install equipment that falls on the HVAC contractor that you chose to install it."

While I don't disagree with this, a manufacturer should be expected to help a homeowner when there's a problem with their equipment and the installing dealer goes bust. I'm not saying they should pay to fix it or send one of their own tech support people out to fix it but they should at least point the homeowner in the right direction.

My daughter has a new Daikin gas furnace and AC and it works wonderfully but I'm more than a little disappointed to hear of their poor corporate customer service and support.
