Re-routing plumbing stack

I wanted to open up the kitchen to the family room but there is a plumbing stack right in the middle of the room which was originally hidden in a wall. I am concerned about rerouting this due to having the right pitch needed in the pipe. Is this a concern? This is the main plumbing stack for the house.

Only someone on-site could answer this. Are you moving it a foot? A yard? Twenty five feet?

About 10 foot in order to open up wall.

Is the house slab on grade or on a basement? Is there a bathroom over this location?

There is a basement and this stack is connected to a bathroom on the second floor. My main concern is that if I reroute it, would the pitch be enough since I’d have to make almost a right turn to have it go down next to another wall. I called some plumbers. One plumber said not to do it since if the pitch is not accurate, I’d have a lot of clogging issues in the bathroom. Another plumber said no issue to move it, but he really didn’t measure anything, just kind of visually looked at it.

It may depend which way the ceiling joists run. If the pipe can be run in the joist space, it's probably easy to do. If it's a 3 or 4 inch line,. it only has to slope 1-1/4" in 10 feet.

It is a gargantuan concern. At least you were smart enough to find it before you began demolition. Get a plumber on site please. You're not gonna interwebby this one.

You need a good plumber to answer this for your situation .

Plumber on site is going to be your best answer. But my instinct says no because your fixtures have to be within a certain distance of the vent. (Although I know they have a way around this for sinks. Doubt it for toilets. Maybe for tubs/ showers?)

Thanks, this would definitely take it far from toilet. I just wish when people built these houses, they didn’t stick major pipes into the middle of the house like this. I guess because open concept wasn’t really a “concept” then. The house is 20 years old. I think I need to look for a cabinet or column to hide the pipe. It kind of messes with the design because either the cabinet or column would stick out being in the middle of the room going from kitchen to family room. KD is suggesting keep that portion of wall and stick a cabinet in front, but still seems odd to have a cabinet just stuck in middle. But it is probably less of a headache than trying to move this pipe. I’ve had a lot of issues with this renovation, so don’t want to make more issues for myself. Thanks everyone for your input and guidance!

Maybe build a pantry around it? Although it sounds like it would be right in the middle of your open area. Or make it look like a post. Build a fake one that helps equalize the look.
