My upper doors are 48" with 9' ceilings. I don't see 2" more being a big deal but that sure is a lot of crown. I have 5 1/2" or so.

My dad made my cabinets and he suggested putting a intermediate rail towards the top to mimic the 2 door look but still be one door. I decided against it. But if you could go higher than 50" that may look really nice and make the door sturdier.

44"+6" is the worst option IMO. That 6" cabinet will look teeny tiny up there.

Any please share your kitchen pictures? I would like to see how 48” height cabinets looks like. Thanks

I have 10’ ceilings. My cabinets are 42” doors with a light rail below and a lighted cabinet with crown mounding above. The white kitchen is the model home kitchen and the other picture is a closeup of my cabinets. I think a 48”+ door would be rather heavy and over time with the opening and closing of the cabinet door cause some stress on the hinge. I don’t like having “dust shelves” with the open space above cabinets. I’m 5’5” and can only reach the 2 bottom shelves without using my step stool. Luckily I have a lot of lower drawers and a large pantry, so I store more items I don’t use often.

With a 10' ceiling, if you want the cabinets to go to the ceiling you will need to stack them. 42"+18" will still leave room for 6 inches of crown molding. A single 50" cabinet will leave 16" of space between the cabinet and ceiling if you hang them at standard height - way too much to fill with crown molding.

We have a 10'2"' ceiling but added a tray to bring the cabinets to only 9'. This is a 50" door and it's very tall! It works because of the hutch look, and it's inset. I would do stacked for sure if you are going all the way to the ceiling. My crown is 3".
