Either :-) But in your climate (frost free), I'd plant outside. Or in a large enough container to accommodate growth but that can be moved into some protection should temps drop below freezing. Be careful about fertilizing - apparently they can be quite sensitive. And the more sun they receive the better the likelihood they will produce fruit.

I'm in Santa Ana zone 9b/10a and one of my neighbors grew a pineapple outdoors in full sun. He said the fruit was delicious. It takes a couple of years.
