Shelf decor suggestions

I have a small, not deep door that I had made into a bookcase. Shelves are 8”-9” of usable height, 25” long, And 6” deep.

so far I have done this and I feel it’s the right amount of things but that the decor is a little dark and maybe the top shelf needs a little help (Frame is not tall or wide enough?). I welcome any suggestions for color, balance, etc. this is just what I had on hand so I would be willing to buy a few things to make it really shine. greenery? More color?

Try giving each shelf more breathing room. On the top shelf, move the 3 items so they’re not touching. Do the same for each shelf. The duck can be on the shelf by itself. Right now it feels kind of random and lacking cohesion. Giving each piece some room to shine will help. Give that a try, post a picture and let’s see how it works!

i feel like the top shelf spreading out made a big difference, thank you so much. Here is an updated picture, what do you think? Thank you again for your help.

Hard cover books only. Avoid lining things up like soldiers unless it is a collection of some sort. Opt for layering when you can. In such a tiny, focused space I would prefer to display a collection of like items. Do you have any crystal or silver items that could cluster here? How about pottery? All hand carved animals or a collection of porcelain flowers.

Thankyou:) I can definitely do hardcover books. I don’t have any collections of stuff (hesitant To Put crystal since it is a door and moves, I am securing the items down though...)

pottery could work. oh! I have a lot of blue and white chinoiserie items...do you think it matters that the Other rooms I see from here don’t have blue and white?

Give it a try and switch out to your blue and white collection. I think it would look lovely!

I'm sure these are secured somehow! We

often used sticky dots when I worked at

    and antique shop.

Storage baskets/boxes, small vases, hardcover books, etc are great and are small enough to fit on every level of your shelf. Look for bright vibrant colors to add a pop of color to space. Would also suggest keeping all the books in one last shelve!

Here’s a little update. I did not have quite enough of the right size blue and white items to fill the case. Over time, I’m going to possibly work on that and then redo this again but for now- this is what I did. I tried to layer, add some color, not line things up, only hardcover books. Everything is secured with poster tack and it works great:) I kind of want to play around with the bottom right at some point- possibly add another picture frame on top of some books rather than the book end but I didn’t have on hand. Let me know what you all think:))) amd thanks again!

If I may suggest, grouping all your blue & whites together on one shelf, to highlight as an intentional collection. Allow a little more breathing room, each shelf doesn’t need to be filled up, but leave empty space. This actually showcases your beautiful things. So, take everything off. Start by grouping the blues & whites. Then, edit what you put back. This is fun!

I think it's perfect exactly as it is now. Well done!
