add the species to this link.. and look at all the pix.. and then increase by half .. just to prolong how long it will be before you need to start pruning it ... for size ... pruning for shape should start in a few years ....

Given the OP, I'd guess S. pseudocamellia, Japanese stewartia :-) IME, these tend to grow more pyramidal than broad but they can get wide, given a long enough period of time. If you allow a good 10-12' from the fence you should be fine for several decades :-)

Yes stewartia pseudocamellia. Can they also take bright indirect sun all day and still thrive? Also probably like 30 ft away from my neighbors prunus serotina.

Not a type that lends itself to pruning. And any tree of any kind that is intended to read as a stand alone feature - as a specimen tree - will need plenty of space around it, that extends well beyond the reach of its branches in order to show up in that way.

Considering that this tree is still a seed, I think you have plenty of time to chew over the minutiae of its final position.

floral_uk z.8/9 SW UK, dbarron A person should dream--and plan! I don't know about the OP but it can be hard when you've got all these things stratifying and they don't give you any feedback, but you just have to keep taking care of them and *hoping*.

Oh yeah, every gardener (especially those that do seeds) is a dreamer, but until the seedling is at least a month or two old, plans are probably premature. In the case of a tree/shrub, plans may be premature for a year or two yet.
