basement lighting and layout help

Our rec room 400 sq ft, it’s dark so I need help:
A- brightening up the space. Since COVID I work from home full time. The only locations for my office are here in the basement or up on my dining table. I like the separation having it in the basement brings but I’m in Canada, and it’s depressing and dark in the winters. But bring it upstairs, presents the other less than ideal alternative of seeing my work space on weekends and off times.

B- finding a way to: incorporate a spare room. Love the idea of a Murphy bed but not sure where to fit it with the ginormous couch. Tv needs to stay put due to wiring.

Do you want to change your couch into something that can serve as a bed too? Maybe we can do a couch and a day bed? Or a pull out sectional? Regardless I think I’d flip the couch so that the back is where that little part is. To give more space at the desk. New and bigger light fixture there. And maybe if you decide on a Murphy bed to do built ins. Matching to the ones by the desk around the bed ... great space

The couch is too big for the room. I would sell it and get a sleeper sofa. Where are all your wall outlets? Upgrade the ceiling fixture to a pretty semi-flush with 4000K LED's to give a daylight feeling. Put the sofa on that wall and flank it with two floor lamps with upgraded LEDs too.

I need to see a floor plan and as for brighting up the space a ton of LED pot lights in 4000K either on dimmers or on separate switches to darken room for TV. BTW the TV is hung too high and a nice low cabinet about 2 x wider the TV hung where the center of the screen is at eye level when you are seated. Moving wiring is not that big of a deal and you will need an electrician to do the pot lights anyway. I aslo live in Canada and that is what we did in our walk out basement. I agree the sofa is huge and honestly provides very liitle really comfortable seating A sofa and 2 chairs a much nicer idea and the sofa can be a sofa bed if guests are not too frequent. The a space for the kids to play where the toys are not in the same space as the TV but we need a to scale floor plan of the whole basement.

You can bring in a floor lamp or two for additional light. That would be the cheapest and fastest way to brighten the space. A Murphy bed with a cabinet may fit on the wall to the left of the tv. Folded up between uses, it just looks like a cabinet.

Hey ok good news we already have pot lighting on dimmers- maybe it’s just changing the bulbs? What layout and colours for couch and accessories would you suggest to make this feel less cave like for my office? The only other location isn’t ideal as you can see. There is no bathroom downstairs, it’s unfinished storage space with built in shelving.
