We will need more than that to get this thread going. I usually have damping off issues and spindly growth due to insufficient light. I am improvising by trying to avoid starting seeds indoors in feb/march. This time I started quite a few seeds in august when there is little danger of damping off -snapdragons, stocks, penstemon, peppers, nemesia. Only the nemesia failed (i have three spindly weeklings starting to set buds). The other is to winter sow. I don't sun outdoors in winter so I just sow seeds in the larger containers that are left outdoors for the winter (roses, clematis , raspberry). I sowed sweet peas and poppies last year and that worked ut well except I had to bring the pots indoor for a week or two to get them to germinate before they were sent back out or they would have been late. This year I am trying out columbines and pansies as well.

Last year I thought I would stratify outdoors. Then in spring temps went from freezing to a germination inhibiting 90 in two weeks! There were far too many seeds to bring inside, so I left them out for this coming spring--I figure as long as the seeds didn't rot and weren't eaten they might just pop up.

I have trouble starting peppers. They start off fine and grow well for a month and then they turn almost white and (often) die. I thought at first that it was because they were a lot smaller than the tomato seedlings, yet I was giving them all the same amount of water.

Despite being more careful last year, I still lost some seedlings, specifically Lipstick peppers. I now have a new batch of those seeds in case there was something wrong with them.
