I ABSOLUTELY agree the TV is too big - it was a non negotiable for my husband who is in love with sports *sigh* and unfortunately because of all the wiring behind it I can’t move it.

couches facing each other always look nice but terrible for watching TV in my opinion. I like your original arrangement but pulling all the furniture in a little bit. especially the chairs.

@decoenthusiaste we definitely have some room to move the rug. It’s just very large (as is the two-piece padding underneath)and requires more than a few hands to move.

@always1stepbehind we liked it before too it just made the room feel empty and people should try to walk behind our chairs and would brush against the wall.

Also - it seems all furniture should be on the rug and our arrangement before wouldn’t allow for that.

@HU-187528210 i agree that the rug is large. What’s crazy is the store designer where we bought our furniture chose the size and it was crazy expensiv. It wasn’t until we got everything in the room that we realized it’s much bigger than needed.

My rug arrived a bit too large. The store sent someone to trim and bind right in the room. Came out perfect like it was always that size

The rug is big. Very cool idea Marilyn!!! I like the couches facing each other. I think it looks amazing. Pull them both a drop closer to the windows. Do you like it??

* UPDATE * Received my lamps and they are not what I expected so - back to the drawing board on lamps or no lamps? console or no console.

I am definitely keeping the sofas across from each other. I really like the layout.

I ordered a small round coffee table but, I realize we really like to have the option of propping our feet up when on couch so I am sending that back.

I think your not liking it because the side tables are the same shape as a lamp. Either replace the tables or add st else to them ( Frames. Vase of flowers....)

@HU-187528210 would you recommend square tables? The other issue is the plug for the lamps are too short and I bet I will have that issue in general.

If I push the sofas back it will trow the symmetry of the room off so I may not be able to have table lamps.

Not necessarily squares. Find something you love. But it has to be something chunkier. I think ☺️

Just google “narrow sofa tables” and you’ll find a ton. Place two identical yet interesting lamps on the sofa table behind the couch closest to the window. Beautiful room, by the way! It might be worth it to get an outlet installed on the floor for those lamps.

@lkloes thank you - I am hoping I can find one for two lamps. I definitely like how the room looks with lamps vs. without.

I didn’t think about installing floor outlets. That actually would be perfect. Our room is bigger than what it appears since we moved the furniture in so I think finding cords long enough even with adding sofa tables will continue to be a problem.

Also, I love the new placement of the chairs. Now you can see the beautiful detail on the back.

The TV commands attention not only because of its size (which you can't change) and its high contrast with the wall colour (which you can change). A trick to hide a TV is to paint the wall dark. I think it looks good here. I picked the colour of your dark chairs.

I'd beef up the trim around the door a bit because it looks a little narrow, to balance the shelving on the other side.

Your shelving would look better without so many squares, especially the dark-framed picture with the white matting on the top shelf. Maybe group those on the wall between the shelving and curtain. Instead choose something that commands some attention due to its shape and colour. Maybe repeat the colour of your blinds by adding something in a similar colour. Carved wood maybe, or wicker. Choose something that almost fills the spaces, and that has impact from across the room. Nothing small or detailed.

Add wall art on the side walls, again to give the eye something to look at besides the TV.

@partim oh my goodness I never thought to paint the wall. I have thought about painting the built in black or the FP hearth. This definitely gives me something more to think about as we finish off the room!

Not sure you need the paint. But if your doing it include the built ins with it. Meaning if your adding black to the walls paint the built ins black also

I would not paint the built ins dark. The dark wall blends in the TV. The built-ins need to draw attention from the TV and remain white. Use a dark colour not black.

You can find many examples on the internet and on Houzz of painting a wall dark to camouflage a TV. Like these.

Not every single cubic inch of a space needs to be filled with something. If you are looking for a nice inexpensive way to change the space, add a nice coffee table or trunk as a coffee table at least the height of the couch seat. Problem solved.

@Tipton Spires Design|Build thanks for the suggestion. I’m not looking for an inexpensive way to decorate. Every piece in this room was quite costly to be honest. I don’t even want to say how much our ginormous rug cost 🙄

I want our space to look pleasing and be functional. The reason why I purchased this table is it’s not overpowering and a statement piece.

. . . we have two ottomans that we otherwise will use in the center of the room which are functional as well if we decide not to keep the table.

@Roni Day Then I would build out/case the fireplace wall and combine with the bookshelf so that the TV is not 25% of the wall space...agree with painting a darker color to add a pop. Adding an equal amount of dark/black tile around the fireplace to make it appear larger would certainly help with the size of the TV. I did like the option of placing the TV on the wall adjacent of the windows but then if that door is used often people would be walking in front of the TV and that may not be functional. At the end of the day it is whatever functions best for your family.

@Tipton Spires Design|Build thank you. Unfortunately my husband wanted the huge tv and it became a headache so I waived my flag. Due to all the wiring it now can’t be moved. We built our house from ground up.

Hindsight would have put it on that wall.

You have given me another idea to consider, changing the tile which is simple.

This has been fun but challenging at the same time.

@roniday I don’t know if the round is working there. I keep looking back at the ottomans when they were there.... Would be cool for side tables tho... did they have them in a smaller size. Or even a different less dramatic gold and glass side table?

My husband think’s it’s our current side tables that aren’t working. So the quest to finish this room continue.
