Are kitchen curtains outdated?

last month

We've recently done some cosmetic updates to our kitchen and I want to do something to the window area. It looks kind of blank right now. I wanted roman shades but I can't do an internal mount due to the way the window is installed. I don't like the external mounts. Then I thought of curtains but not the cafe style. My taste is more transitional, not so traditional. I'm considering a tension rod between the two walls with the curtains pushed to the sides so mostly not as much of the window will be covered. BUT, are kitchen curtains still a thing?? I don't want my kitchen to look like someone's granny decorated it. Advise needed. Thx!

I agree with just a valance. They are enough to soften the look by themselves.

I love being able to look out my windows and want as much light as possible. I don't cover any of them except for blackout shades in the bedroom.

Just select a woven wood shade valance for the top of the window to finish the window.

I think the large gap between the window and the ceiling says, "Put something here!" The suggestion above seems reasonable as the shade doesn't actually cover the glass.

No, curtains are not outdated. Nothing is every really outdated; however, some things are poorly chosen for their room.

Your window is calling out for a curtain of some type -- valance, cafe, or whatever.

Agree with a woven or fabric shade mounted above the window - fwiw we did that with a bamboo shade it adds a lot of texture and warmth to the space

I love Mrs. Pete's comment. It's the way something is done that can look off, rather than the thing itself.

A valance or woven wood shade would look very nice and simple to go with your "transitional" style. But it all depends on your goal--what do you want the window treatment to do? Privacy? Light control? Decor only?

The window is already small, adding any type of window treatment will reduce it even further. It looks good as it is.

    Some things do become outdated.

There’s a difference between saying that geese-themed wallpaper is outdated and making a blanket statement that all wallpaper is outdated. The question posed was “are kitchen curtains outdated.” Some specific styles may no longer be in fashion, but that doesn’t mean that all kitchen curtains are outdated.

Good point @Diana Bier Interiors, LLC

I was initially thinking that all wallpaper borders are outdated but apparently there have been attempts at revival over the past few years. And I suppose that an authentic William Morris wallpaper combination with border will always look good in the right room.

Kitchen curtains are not necessarily outdated; they depend on the room’s style, fabric, and overall design. Modern options such as linen café curtains, simple Roman shades, and lightweight patterned panels can add warmth and personality without looking old-fashioned. Neutral colors and clean patterns generally create a contemporary appearance, while heavy fabrics and overly elaborate designs may feel dated. When browsing home décor ideas online, the keywordppcine apk is unrelated to kitchen curtains, interior design, or decorating trends and should not influence your design choices.

No kitchen curtains are not out dated. If privacy and or light control isn't needed many windows can celebrate their casings and go unadorned. The question only you can answer is does your kitchen need this window to have curtains? You seem to have a nice space for some sort of fabric adornment. A valance or beautiful roman shade could add color, softness, interest to the room.
