Is your basement even under the porch? Or is that unexcavated?

This is stock photo Don Gardner supplies but we would want the basement to be below the porch to keep the basement walls straight.

The porch is essentially too shallow to serve as a real porch. I would probably extend it into the size of a future full porch/sunroom if it were my home.

Yes, you can have a basement below, I have a wine cellar under my porch. I used corrugated steel panels over the area with concrete and concrete tiles on top of it.

We have part of our basement suite under our covered back porch. One of the rooms is windowless so is considered a den as a result. The other has egress through a side window and is a proper bedroom. But both are partially under the porch.

Seriously consider making the room that much longer so your exterior wall is straight. Inside, use a different flooring to make a distinction between your entry and your living room, perhaps adding a pony wall height cabinet across most of the space between entry and living area -- with solid doors, it could be used for storage even storage for outdoor clothing accessories such as shoes ... and a good place to store a school back pack or go bag. You could also utilize that entry space for a hat rack and potted plants and/or a table/desk.

Alternately, if you want the porch to be deep enough to be usable, you could extend the roof overhang so the front fascia of it extends as far as that front bedroom or even beyond and to the right corner as well as an overhang. You could even add a forward facing gable only over the deeper part of the porch and extend it more to create the size porch you want.

It is shallow so I’m hoping the grading can allow for an extension.

Your answer is dependent upon all your needs in a home and what your site is like. For the best solution hire a local architect to design a house with you that meets your needs and fits your site.

Looking at the plan, you walk in the door and fall into the dining room.

You have a utility porch and a closet facing the views instead of a bedroom.

That bedroom should be facing the side of the house instead of stuck in the middle of the house.

That plan is plumb crazy.
