Paula, I also love the cockroach joke! 😆

I am enjoying all the c’s here. I especially like Crumb Cake and Christmas white.

Sunnywood, your Carnivals look so different.....are the light conditions really different?

All of the CRVFs look great as well.

    my c’s:

    Chartreuse Wiggles

This hasn’t grown much in two years.... I think a dig up to clear roots from maple tree or a relocation is in order.

Not sure if this in too much sun? I wasn’t aware the edge turned yellow.

Not enough sun? Too much? Guess I will have to separate in summer.

Let's start out with what typically is my earliest riser: 'Chinese Sunrise'.

Another early riser is H. clausa var normalis. It's a toss-up as to which of these unfurls first. The flowers on this species are quite dark.

'Camelot', this is one member of the breeding that Eric Smith did with 'Tardiflora' and 'Elegans', another notable one being 'Halcyon'.

Here's a sporting 'Captain Kirk'. The sport didn't came back the next year...

And now for something just a tad smaller: 'Cat's Eye'.

    Pieter

P.S. Laurie, I recognize the handwriting on that clausa tag (:

Paula, I'm all in on the cow!

Don't know how I forgot this one: 'Canadian Blue', which is either a 'Halcyon' seedling or sport, the jury seems to be out on that one.

nw Cupatini is right up your alley as a blue fan. It really is exceptional! I hope oursteelers managed to find one, she is a fan too!

Pieter lol, you will see a few more familiar tags too depending on the angle. Why mess with perfection?

mbug What a shame you lost Captain's Adventure, I have read that it is at very least unstable. Losing one must be a rarity for you.

So why did the two rednecks paint the cow? They didn't want it to turn into a 1/4 pounder.

old_dirt..1/4 pounder Lol!!..or could it be to keep deer away from their hostas?..are deer afraid of tigers?..

    last modified: 5 years ago

Seeing that cow grazing in the field would sure make you do a double take. ....lol old_dirt!

peren.all/Laurie, I notice your newly planted hostas are pretty good size. Do you grow them out in their pot for a while before planting? ....Cupatini always grabs my attention.

Laura that first pic of Cherry Tart is so pretty.

Lots of Curly Fries I like. And I'm glad I moved my Cool as a Cucumber when I see the ones here.

nhl, you have such a good eye for finding the beauty even when the leaf flops over.

shadow, such a nice Christmas White you have.

mbug, that's too bad you lost Captain's Adventure. It's not often I see one as nice as yours was. ..... Your Color Festival is a beauty.

Candy Dish, another one that's been moved after this pic was taken. It had too much competition in this space.

sandyslopes there are some I have been holding for a while (sometimes years) in pots until I have a spot for them. As the Alphabet progresses you will see some that are quite small, barely out of a plug size. All of yours are wonderful but every time I see your Clovelly it really stands out for me.

So many beauties this year from everyone!

    last modified: 5 years ago

Laurie, I wondered if you were growing them bigger before planting out on purpose. I'm always looking for the secrets of other people's success so I can copy them! I planted some very small ones this season and a couple didn't make it. But I haven't had the best luck in pots, either. Clovelly is a lovely hosta.

I agree about so many beautiful hostas being shown. This alphabet is such a welcome sight!

I have not really joined in on this event in the past, mostly due to lack of photos when it comes time in December. I do have two 'C' photos this year, however. One photo I took since I was so stunned by this particular plant's first year leaf (Cuyahoga) and the second photo I took because I was surprised at how well my late-season, bargain purchase of Coast to Coast worked out.

this is a screenshot of Pieter's comment..does my "sage" green (bottom) hosta look like his?..I don't know the ID..this is one of my favorite pictures ever..I love the colors..there's an Elegans..Krossa Regal..August Moon..Clausa..Autumn fern and my NOID..when I saw Pieter's hosta I thought of mine..I never bought a Canadian Blue..I think there's a Halcyon somewhere by the path so a seedling is possible..

    Christmas Tree

I would like to put in a good word for Coast to Coast even though I don’t have a picture to share. Very eye catching, handles tree roots well and even competes with my roses ie doesn‘t become boring or irrelevant just because the roses are blooming. To me that says a lot about a plant’s structure and color if it doesn’t fade into the background when next to a petal packed fragrant bloom

I am eyeing the beautiful Christmas Trees here---wondering why it isn't on my wish list. Love your unfurling Christmas Tree photo oursteelers! The corrugation on CT is what I love most.

This is one that just jumped into my car while visiting Bob Fox at his Hosta Farm. I'd really like to make it back there this year,

and I definitely need a better pic this year.

Steve, what is the name of that Bob Fox hosta?

How silly of me. Here's a hint

    It's Christmas Lights.
