What did the temperature go down to while you were away? It looks as if it got frozen.

Probably the 20’s but it’s never froze before. Will it come back??

Well and truly frozen if it went to 20s f. It must have been sheltered somehow before. Whether it can survive depends on if the centre of the plant froze. I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Would repotting help?

No. It wouldn’t. Freezing destroys the cell walls and there’s nothing to be done about that. All you can hope is that there is a bit of the centre of plant which was protected and which might have survived. This is not a hardy subject anywhere which gets freezing temperatures And yours has been subjected to well below freezing. You were just very lucky last year. Where are you located?

To get an idea of what has happened to your plant put some lettuce in the freezer. You’ll get mush. That’s what's going on here.

It’s only hope is to let it be and don’t overwater. It is already stressed and repotting would stress it more...and ferts won’t help either.

Google tells me that is USDA hardiness zone 7 - 8 depending on location. Your Aloe is likely a 9- 11 plant. You were lucky last year. If it survives, treat it as a houseplant over future winters.

And otherwise (doesn't survive), throw it away and forget it, or replace it with something zone appropriate, as suggested by floral above.

This is so confusing because it wasn’t growing at all when I had it inside. After a couple weeks outside a couple years ago it started thriving and has been. I am literally lost for words now. She was my first baby.

I’m not sure what is confusing you. Simply bring it into the house in winter. It is fine for it to be outside for most of the year, as it is for many houseplants. But, as you have discovered, your Aloe cannot take a freeze. I have just brought several plants indoors this week. You just need to be aware of the weather forecast.

Okay. What about elephant ear plants? I thought I had to bring it in and it appears to have died as well. This is my first one and I’ve only had it a few months and outside the last two.

It likely just died to the ground. Bring the pot in and it may resprout in late winter or when you put it out when it warms up in spring.
