I am wondering what I would put on the wall where the Christmas tree is.. it’s a bit open space there as well

One big change for the room would be repainting the walls and ceiling a warm white that harmonizes better with your oak, brick, beams, and floor. The accent wall near the fireplace clashes quite a bit with your fireplace and floor. Paint everything one lighter color with the ceiling a lighter shade of the wall color to bring out the warmth of the beams. A warm backdrop will highlight the art work you buy for the big wall and over the fireplace.

I would love to move the sectional down the wal, but we have a return vent on that wall in the open space and it cannot be blocked. So I am trying to decide how to fill that area so it’s not just a big gap. I love the painting ideas!

Okay, so paint your accent walls near fireplace same color as your walls. Then paint ceiling a paler color of your current walls. (I still think a warm white would work best.) Think about a patterned rug in warm golds, brown, and grays. Replace coffee table with wood coffee table, up on legs, that matches the floors and beams. All these steps will pull together the room in a rustic direction.

I got rid of that lamp. I am not a fan of the gold. But here’s a few pictures to show how large they space is between the fireplace and edge of couch.

I am definitely planning on painting the accent walls the same color as the walls now.

I also have the matching couch ottoman instead of that table there.

That’s not a return, that’s a supply. Your sectional should be about 4-6” away from the wall anyway so slide the sectional down once you move the sectional away from the wall and everything will be fine

Yes, painting the accent walls by the fireplace the same as your other walls will unify the room. The wall color looks fine with your wood trim now that you have better lit photos. Beverly gave you some great ideas for art works. Take your time choosing pieces you love. Check Etsy and Society 6 for framed prints. Then look for a large rug, sofa pillows, and window treatments, pulling colors from the art.

The vent is a return vent! I just put paper up to it and it sucks the paper towards it.

Perhaps adding some artwork above the sectional would work. Then you could add a small end table to the one end of the sectional.

Kirsten, I can't seem to read every post -- I just saw that you plan to paint the fp wall that same... while I'm on that -- the wood unit seems stain of the ceiling beams?

the floor does it have even a bit more red tones?

I wonder if a whole other look for the unit might look better? chalk paint is easy they say... could be a brick red, or slate grey idk...

Sectional color could go with this grey/ivory/warms and distressed appearance- and horses if greyed like the sofa [I think of ceilings too, if white]
