Spins are usually Spring blooming. Altaica does look like this painting.

Not exactly on topic, but this discussion reminds me of a charming but puzzling rhyme in one of Thomas Hardy's books ( I forget which one; might be Under the Greenwood Tree?)

Since when do roses, lilies and daffodils all bloom at the same time, lol? Or perhaps the sheep-shearing occurs at 3 different times?

I have no idea what it is, but I like the rose! I'm a sucker for singles.

Comtesse, the spins could grow anywhere in England. I am amazed how well they do here too. I realize in this warm climate I could grow anything, but they have a special charm. They did very well in Alaska.
