Baseboard installation dilemma

I’m installing 5.5“ baseboards around my house and there is a stair landing on the bottom of the staircase that I don’t know how to accommodate. This is what I have insofar. I think a triangle piece connecting the 2 baseboards would make this look more cohesive but I’d love to hear your thoughts on how to make this look more professional.

The issue exists at the bottoms of my stair landing:

If, you want the two pieces to meet. Continue the base from the stair landing pass the edge the width of the base. Miter the corner and return it down into the floor. You will need to trim the baseboard on the floor to the side board. If, that makes any sense.
