Cheap lacquer finish with moisture blush. The cabinet maker can spray with a blush retarder. But lacquer is easily affected by moisture and subject to this. It’s not really used by pros in the industry anymore. It’s 1980’s finishing technology. 40 years out of date.

But wondering if these are from a cabinetmaker? Or purchased from a large manufacturer. Gray stains are hard for cabinetmakers, I thought. OP??? Who made these? Local cabinetmaker? They look frameless too...not that that has anything to do with it. Just wondering where you got them.

These look stained with a clear coat. Trying to repair would mean sanding all the way to bare wood and re-doing. An opaque paint would be an easier fix. Then you'd only need to lightly sand and prime the surface and re-coat. If you get a good painter, you could have a 2K Milesi or Renner coating that would last a long time. Envirolak is a one-part coating that is also getting great reviews for toughness. If you try to head that direction, beware of some painters in the field who will tell you they use 2K products but in actual fact leave the hardener out when doing the job. You need someone who will use a product as designed. I'm sorry you are dealing with this. The cost for the fix should be on the builder if there's any recourse now.
