Detergents from long ago

I wish they still made detergents with the scents from yesteryear instead of a super sweet candy smell.

Good Home Company has lavender, green grass and other gently scented laundry products.

Arm & Hammer liquid Fresh Scent with Oxi Clean has a classic clean laundry smell.

I loved the smell of this one.

Tide Mountain Spring Powder leaves a light herbal scent. It's also an excellent detergent.

tideman_59, that is the absolute truth!!

In fact, I was going to say that I miss the old Tide powder scents.

jenfbc, I never heard of this one. Please educate me. Who owned this brand?

I wish they would go back to their old scents. They did away with the last one standing, which was ALL regular powder. It was a light, fresh scent that didn't make you gag when you wore your clothes. Or anyone standing nearby you. I gave up on trying to find anything from today's offerings. I use unscented most of the time now. Dh likes the Tide Oxi liquid on his clothes (it does clean very well) but I would have to wash my own clothes with bar or dish soap if that was the only thing left. I do use regular so called original Tide powder (not original scent at all, they lie) and I can tolerate it on clothes at times for myself. I use it for the family much of the time, well because it's all we have left. I tried the Tide Mountain Spring powder once a few years ago because folks here like it, but I don't know, maybe I got a funny box or something. It smelled very harsh/chemically to me. Not fresh or light or mountain spring. However, and it's a big however, it cleaned like nothing I've ever used! Maybe my box got a double dose of cleaning agents! Sorry I sound like a cranky old lady today It's been a very hard week.

Bold was on the market for years, a P&G product. Introduced in the mid 1960s.

SEA SEA, we don't think that at all. I totally understand being frustrated over the increasingly pointless changes these companies are making for senseless reasons. Especially when it's not for the better.

dadoes, was this originally P&G's budget offering? or possibly a precursor to the modern Gain lineup?

I wish the old scents would come back too. I had tried Grab Green 3-in-1 powder in waterlily scent once and the scent was a little nostalgic.

iirc, littlegreeny said at one time that the Tide with Oxi scent may be the old Bold scent. I can't really remember with detail the scent of Bold, but when I first smelled the new at the time Tide with Oxi scent, I kept trying to remember where I had smelled it before. It might have been Bold detergent as I did use that from time to time ages ago. Anyhow, it probably has a different, new and improved wink wink scent by now haha.

Next time I'm in walmart I'll sniff the Tide with Oxi. Thanks sea sea!

I can just imagine all of us in the laundry aisle sniffing detergent, lol.

haha elbits. From what I've read in old posts in this forum, going back years, that was a common occurrence. Present day, it's probably good practice considering how laundry detergent scents have gone bonkers. Wouldn't want to be stuck with a giant stinker on your hands!

Wow, @SEA SEA you have an excellent memory...I said that over two years ago! Tide with Oxi smells very similar to my dearly departed Bold. I loved loved LOVED Bold! The scent brings me back to simpler times before I had gray hair. If you remember, Bold was a detergent/fabric softener combination that replaced Solo. Anyone else remember the Solo commercials? These played all the time when I was a child.

Do you think Colgate-Pomolive will ever enter into the Detergent game? I know they have a fabric softener (Suavitel) but do you think they'd ever come out with a detergent? or possibly buy an existing brand? 🤔

Ah, but no littlegreeny. I somehow don't remember Solo detergent. I watched the video you linked and it stirred, well, nothing. Oh well. My house growing up was a White King D detergent household--no exceptions. haha Mom was not big on housework and even less thrilled to run laundry loads. I suspect WKD was the least costly of all the offerings at the time.

Your memory is pretty good too if you remember when you mentioned the scent connection of Tide w/Oxi and Bold! I wish you could use the Tide w/Oxi in your household, just for old time's olfactory sake.

Colgate-Palmolive had numerous detergent brands: Cold Power, Fresh Start, Dynamo liquid, Ajax, Fab, Ad, Super Suds, Burst, Axion enzyme presoak product.

Dadoes, did they sell Dynamo and Fab to Phoenix Brands? I only see those two brands offered at the Dollar General. Same with Ajax. I know the Ajax dish detergent is still owned by Colgate-Palmolive, but is the Ajax detergent owned by Phoenix brands as well?

we still have Bold in the U.K, we never had Gain and we lost Tide in the 80s (P&G favouring Ariel on this side of the pond, which is an excellent detergent, I actually find it better than Tide), but as with any P&G product Bold is now available in 300 scents.
