I love!!! I personally think an accent wall would be too much for the space + I am a huge fan of the SW creamy.

the missing touch for me is a couple personal touches to make the room more homey, maybe something for the mantle or something for the coffee table?? a vase bowl/a couple books stacked up?

My first impression was that the room was generally pleasant and comfy but maybe with too many items. Try removing a pillow or two, or a throw and see how it feels to you.

There are 2 of the exact same table side by side next to the couch--they look like people at a party who don't know why they've been invited.

Art, you need some colorful art above the fireplace instead of the mirror. I agree with changing out the ceiling light. We changed our ceiling light to a small led pancake light in white, on an led dimmer. We still have a centre ceiling light but it is barely noticeable, gives the room a less cluttered more modern appearance. Your room is very nice, I think art above the fireplace, will make a big difference.

Agree with some art over the fireplace that picks up the sofa's blue.

Lol! @Anna (6B/7A in MD) about the side tables next to each other. I know kind of awkward....I put them there yesterday bc they are so dark and big i didn’t like the way they look flanked next to the sofa. I need to prob find a new place for them..stain them a lighter color.. or get rid of them all together.

A nice rod hung chandelier would look good in your living room and give your mirror something pretty to reflect. I'd also replace the dining room fixture and have it rewired to hang over the table.

Really pretty work so far. I think you really have a flair for this stuff. For sure remove those side tables lol. I would consider removing the texture from the ceiling. Adding a new light. Art and mantle decor. And then maybe some more panels for the curtains. I think itll look better fuller.

Move the round mirror to the wall with the tv, so it reflects the view and light from outside. Complete that wall with more art or your hanging rug, and put a large colorful piece of art over the fireplace. Pull the end tables away from the wall and use them on each end of the sofa so they are functional.

I also feel like your room could use one punchy secondary color, like green, gold, or rust. Carry it the art, pillows and throws.

I'd remove the pink throw and pillow from the chair, invest in white curtains - at least double the fullness you have now, and all new pillows - two matching lumbars in the chairs and some graphic pillows for the sofa.

I agree the mirror is not setting off your lovely fireplace and it needs styling with some height.

I'd also try switching the plant (in a different stand) over to the window side of the room as well as try the standing lamp behind the sofa. But I think new lighting would really help the room.

I'd try switching the blanket ladder thingy to the clock wall in the dining area to pull the blue down. It seems too casual for that corner to me. Let the fireplace be the star on that wall. I think someone suggested pairing the black and white hanging and the Tour piece and that might be worth playing with. I might punch up black accents in that case. Otherwise, I'd move the hanging much closer to the windows.

I think the layout needs to be fixed. The 2 chairs are tall and I think they should flank the FP. To me they look odd where they are. The sofa should face the FP. Art over the FP. More curtain panels, they should be wide enough to cover the windows. Now it just looks skimpy. Move the ladder thingy to where the 2 end tables are now.

Ok so took I some of your awesome suggestions (thank you ALL SO MUCH!!!) and I made some changes using your suggestions and what I have on hand. other things I will tweak over time. let me know what you think! And any other suggestions on the new look! 😊

@jck910 I tried putting the sofa in front of the FP before but it seemed to cut the space off only bc the sofa is so so wide ..I may try again tho and ask for some input.

I would create a accent wall along with the fireplace. It will help create a feeling of width and set focus on your beautiful fireplace. You could also try floating shelves on each side of the fireplace.

I think that every room needs books, I see none in your space. You are also deficient in lamps and side tables. To me, every chair should have a place to set down a drink or an iPhone. Not all need lamps, but in a reading household, a lamp is also necessary.

The blue sofa has much more visual weight than other furniture and this is what throws me a bit. I feel like you need to balance that out by spreading some blue around. What about a set of blue botanicals/art prints around tv? You can buy lovely ones on Etsy for cheap. Blue throw pillows for chairs would be nice as well. That would help balance visual weight a lot. I actually think the mirror could stay with a smaller print resting on mantel and a couple of varying size blue vases.

I really think if you got rid of Eiffel Tower picture and instead did a grouping around tv the room would feel more balanced.

Beautiful space, and the second photos look even better! I couple things that might make it even more gorgeous. 1. Connect the colors. Replace accents with some more gray to connect the flooring and blue to connect the couch. I like the idea of some wall art that brings all the colors together. 2. More variety of texture. Right now there are a lot of fabrics, in the living room, try mixing in some metallics. I would remove either the blanket holder or the boho wall hanging and replace with a mirror or art.

I love your room, I think the blue sofa is so pretty!! I do agree that it might need more texture with some color. The mantel looks great now. I am following because I am on the hunt for a navy blue sofa and already have the cream chairs. I really like what you have done so far.

How about putting the couch facing the fireplace; with it’s back toward the kitchen, put a long entry way table behind the couch - have the tv mounted over the fireplace

Also if possible if this is is done- switch the rug the other way horizontally

@lisams i found some framed blue artwork today along with a few other items. I will add and see how it looks. I’ll post a picture when I have them in place..

I like your changes. The main thing missing now is a decorative light fixture to replace the ceiling light.

Alright! Had fun brainstorming with you. It is a lovely space! (I love those accent chairs.) Have fun with it!

Bright colors. I think your brown woods and gray flooring clash with each other. How about painting the coffee table? Maybe gray to pick up the tones in the flooring, or something unexpected, like yellow, orange, or acid green. If that's not your cup of tea, how about a navy printed throw and some coordinating (NOT matching) throw pillow? Carry the idea over to the mantle with funky candle holders or maybe a mini collection of blue and white vases or jars. The mirror is ripe for DIY adventures. Look for videos about 'dipped' mirrors and painted mirrors. The light fixture is dated. There are some great DIY videos that show how to make a modern bamboo 'basket' light fixture out of dollar store wastebaskets. A can of spray paint (gold, silver, or an exciting accent color) could really bring the whole thing home. You have some great things to work with and it won't cost much to take your living room to the top. :)
