Semi-attached. I don't see any difference in spot cleaning. Covers are not designed to be removed and cleaned.

We have a custom sofa from Bassett that's about 8 years old. In our case we chose detached cushions. We've had no problem at all with them staying in place, and I like being able to rotate them from a wear and tear perspective. I should add our kids are grown, but the sofa's had a lot of use and still looks new.

Is the covering removable if you leave them unattached??

They put zippers in cushions not to make them removable. It’s a better alternative than hand or machine closing the opening.

Our detached cushions have "hidden" zippers. Bassett included a "Furniture Care Kit" with several products when the sofa was delivered. I've only had to use the fabric spot cleaner a few times...no problem. Being able to unzip the covers made it much easier.

Being detached allows you to fluff up the pillows and rearrange them if necessary as there always seems to be one that gets a bit more wear than another.
