cant tell from the pix.. how big is the pot.. for what looks like a large plant???

media does wear out ... its possible this is creating a watering problem ...

has there been any cold event .... like you moved???

i usually let all my plants dry before i water them again ... you say you never let it dry .... how wet do you keep it?? [the absolute best commercial grower i ever saw.. only watered after plants started to almost wilt ... said it made the plant roots grow better ...] .. its easier to revive a dry plant.. than fix a plant you rotted the roots off ...

it is not uncommon that if the top is struggling greatly.. but the roots are otherwise ok ... for a plant to start growing new shoots from the bottom ...

Hi Ken, thanks for the reply. I basically wait to water until the soil is dry to the touch at the base of the trunk. No, no notable cold-weather events like moving, either.

The pot is 5" in diameter and 4" high, which was the next size up from what it was in when I bought the plant in July 2019. I repotted it into its current home in spring 2020. For reference, the plant is now about 12" tall at the highest point (not counting the extra height from the highest leaves, which add another 1" of an inch or so.)
