How About a YOU Decorating Thread Chain???

last modified: 5 years ago

I was reading here today (somewhere) that someone on the Kitchen site thinks our wonderful Conversations is turning out more like FB. I totally disagree, BUT it got me thinking. After seeing Ocotillo's drop-dead wonderful library, My3Dogs beautiful jewel box of a home, and so many snippets of everyone's homes here over the years, I want to see more of YOUR decorated rooms. Don't we all???

So here's my proposal: A decorating thread, or rather a series of them. Everyone start your own post/thread, so that you can add several photos. Let's call it "This is My Favorite Room: and then your name here (so mine would be: "This is My Favorite Room: LynnNM". And proceed to show us some photos of a room in your home that you decorated and that says YOU. And tell us why. What makes this room so "you" personally and why? This would NOT be for anyone to critique (you hear me "decorator professionals"?!? ), just a great way for us to show our own personally decorated rooms. And to get to know each other more. So what do you think, are you game? Remember, start your own thread!

I like the idea! I’ll have to clean, however 😀

I'll have to actually decorate. I'm better with "vignettes".

I love it! Lynn ... you go first. :-)

The actual quote about HD Conversations was this, "all that “drivel” is here, too! Maybe not so much on KT, but on HDDiscussions for sure."

It really bothered me reading that comment. I love this little corner of our forums, and what others call "drivel", I see as genuine sharing and bonding about tiny pieces of our real lives.

I thought this side was for the mundane and drivel? And cats. 😊

Good idea though I don’t decorate so will live vicariously through those of you who do. And who cares what the KT thinks. I tried going there years ago and found you all more to my liking. I never go there any more and will refrain from explaining why lest someone’s sensitivities be offended. Live and let live and if you don’t like something just steer clear. If this was anywhere near FB I would be gone.

Sue, your DR and LR threads (and your kitchen... omg) are the reasons I posted my decorating questions here, instead of Home Decorating, where I would easily be overwhelmed with suggestions. You received just enough advice to be helpful.

So my house, as many of you know, was lost in a fire at the end of August. So we are starting from scratch in rebuilding. I would LOVE to see your rooms, including kitchens so I don't have to buy a bunch of magazines. :)

patriceny, I made that comment. It was in response to someone dismissing FB. For me, FB and especially the groups I belong to are as valuable a resource as GardenWeb for information. I love them both. The things the other person was dissing, like what people eat or what they did today, yes, we talk about it here and on KT! I used “drivel”, in quotes, because the other person did, and I do not consider it drivel at all. It’s friends chatting. It’s deep connections. It’s all of the above, except drivel. I certainly didn’t mean to diss our groups here, but rather meant to point out to the other person that they participate in a group that does the very things they consider to be drivel. We and KT HAVE talked about what we have for lunch. Or dinner. Or breakfast. Or went on vacation. And it’s all good!

And no, this is nothing like Facebook. So much better. different. They both have their place. Both are in how you use them.

I‘m so sorry that I hurt my group that I love! It wasn’t my intention! I wanted to throw someone else’s words back at them, and it backfired, onto me.

bpath, I don't go to that board, but I was getting ready to look for the conversation. I'm glad you posted and saved me the trouble. Thanks for clearing the conversation up. I think we've all had things backfire and I can't imagine you would speak negatively of the group here on conversations.

FWIW, I am SO OVER FB. The talk about the presidency goes on and on and on. I am so sick of it. FB can really be eye-opening sometimes and I think I'd just rather not know some of the things I learn on there. I don't want to delete it as I have several old students I keep up with via FB and our church also streams services on FB right now. But I'm definitely giving it a break!!

Anyway, don't beat yourself up! We know you love us. LOL

Thank you bpath! I didn't even pay attention to who said it. I know who provoked the comment though (that stuck with me!), and I did misunderstand what you meant in reply. I don't see any substantial difference between KT and here, except this is a smaller group of regulars with almost no bickering. The lack of bickering and friendly chatty atmosphere is what makes me love this place.

Really appreciate the clarification. Thank you. 😊

Thank YOU for your understanding! I love these forums and everyone who is here.

I don't get it. Isn't that why we have this separate forum? Because people were kind enough not to clog the decorating forum with other chatter? I have learned so much from so many here, but I see the end in sight as people give up.

Is it bad I don't have a favorite room?! I even like my pie shaped laundry room!

FB? Are you kidding me? I haven't posted there since early August but I go to my page every now and then to download some pictures. Yesterday I happened to scroll down my news feed which I never do anymore, and the political fighting is even worse than before, if you can imagine that!

Those people who said that are just jealous. :)

LOL Allison! How about just post a room that you decorated and that makes you happy to be in?
