Fix Air Duct - torn

last modified: 5 years ago

Hi,

The Furnace and AC Coil are in the attic and usually in the Winter, one of our bedrooms tends to be "not so warm" compared to the rest on the 2nd floor. We have 2 separate units for each floor. Below are pictures of the air-duct and there is a slight tear, is this good enough for air to escape and reduce the efficiency of a unit?

When I placed my hand close to it, I didn't feel any draft.

Anyone else faced this? I have gone back and adjusted the damper to the area for the cold bedroom.

So is it ok to tape these gaps or tears with "Aluminum Foil tape"?

My AC tech is aware of the uneven temperatures and said it is an air-flow issue and how the duct work was laid out when the house was being built, so that's why I am here to get a 2nd opinion.

Thank you!
