LEATHERED GRANITE

I am in the process of selecting a granite. I’m just learning about my options...I liked a leathered gray and black selection. If you have a leathered granite countertop...

Do you regret it? If so, why?

So you love it? If so, why?

Yes - love it
No - regret it

We have leathered steel gray. Love it. Its basically bullet proof. I like that it is not shiny. It works well in our log cabin.

I have leathered Belvedere quartzite in the bar -- love it!

    Leather black mist, it's gorgeous.

Is brushed the same as leathered? I have brushed absolute black in my powder room and my fireplace surround. I love it.

dd has brushed via lactea. Dreamy.

ILoveRed I think brushed is the same as leathered. My slabs were labeled brushed but look the same as leathered.

Also sometimes called "antiqued". I think there are minor variations.

Black leathered, love it because it doesn't show finger prints like shinny granite.

Leathered, brushed, antique, it is all the same type of finish. Some fabricators use leathered, we use brushed, others go with antique. A fine choice for a finish for sure. It's a very tactile finish that many of our clients love.

I have leathered bianco antico and I absolutely love the velvet feel when I clean it. It's very luxurious. Doesn't show smudges and has been a beast in a kitchen of cooks.

how long have you all had it? I too am considering leathered....love the feel but is it hard to clean?

We have leathered Absolute Black granite in our kitchen and master bathroom, and I regret it. We have very hard water, and the small pits in the granite often have water dry in them, leaving white spots that don't come out with a swipe. I literally have to take a toothpick to scratch out the water spot.

We also have honed Absolute Black in our 2 other bathrooms, and I love that. It's not shiny, but a smoother finish that is easier to clean.

My Black Mist has no pits that are hard to clean. I wipe down with plain water, or dilute Simple Green or Method Granite cleaner.

I LOVE mine so much!! I'd do it again in a different house. It hides all the crumbs, fingerprints, and it isn't hard to clean at all. A microfiber wet rag is all I use most days. Mine is called Kashmir and people always comment how cool it looks, and want to touch it. We're selling our home soon and I'm so crushed I'll lose my beloved leather granite counters.

Oh, also, We've had these for almost 5 years. I have hard water, too, (Arizona) and don't have any issues with anything getting "stuck" in the pits or textured areas.

We are considering putting this in our kids bathroom. Is the surface flat? Will items tip? Is this too high maintenance for a kids bathroom?

We have a leathered quartzite on our island and it’s super low maintenance. I love the texture & that it doesn’t show smudges/prints like our polished surfaces do and it’s easy to keep clean. I was concerned it might be a crumb collector because it isn’t totally smooth but that hasn’t proven to be an issue (though to be fair it’s not our main prep area).

    Thanks so much!

No worries about things tipping. While the surface will have a tactile feel they are finished so you won't encounter these types of issues. Best of luck and enjoy whatever you decide to go with

I have leathered black mist in my kitchen and laundry room. No regrets at all. I'm always asked what surface the counter is and get compliments all the time. I love the texture and unique look. Very easy maintenance also.

Melissa- I just read your question. I am actually planning to switch out my polished granite counters to leathered in my 2 quest baths (childrens). More so for the change in color but will definitely go with leather for texture and look when I do.

Thank you for the comments and experience sharing. I love the new counter tops and supper happy with the texture!
