Muddy dirt basement

My wife and I recently bought a house. It has a full size basement with a dirt floor. But the dirt is always wet. The floor is covered with black plastic. There is a slump pump installed. My question is how do I dry this floor out?

You have to prevent the water from getting in. From the exterior. Make sure you have gutters that drain a distance away from the house. Make sure the ground slopes away from the house. Make sure the basement walls are waterproofed from the exterior.

We are getting a new gutter installed this week. The current one leaks at every seam. Making sure the ground slopes away from the house is going to be difficult if not impossible due to how the ground is. It’s very flat. We have a small creek behind our house and it seems to be almost level with our yard.

Previous owners have built up a little berm between the house and creek.
