yes, I would do a niche on one of the side walls.

as for a bench, you're better off using a teak bench.

if you want a built in bench, make sure it's built properly and waterproofed. Use a solid surface for the bench top surface (like quartz)

or do a solid floating bench like this one

this one is even better (maybe harder to keep clean though)

you could also do a long niche like shown in the black tile pic.

this 2x2 Zellige tile looks nice in the Niche w/the Kenridge. the bottom shelf is a piece of granite or quartz

Thanks, Beth These are the elements I’m using, and I’m having a black stone bench built. The designer doesn’t want to ruin the lines with a niche and asked me to think of alternatives... I’m giving that idea a go, but...

well, design is one thing, but function is another! where are you supposed to put your products? Will the designer be there every day to hand them to you?

or maybe you want to place them in a basket and take the basket in and out of the shower with you?

only you know what you want!

there are diff ways to do a niche. put it on the far wall so that when you walk into the room, it's not readily visible. if possible.

to make it less noticeable, use the same tile in the niche. I don't think this interrupts the design.

in fact, I love to see a niche, and I love how this one is done. (tile work could have been better though, it's a little off)

I actually like how this one is done. you need a really good tile guy though.

If she's a designer, tell her to incorporate the niche into the design.

I have a question for you. This tile is hard to get on Tilebar and just went on backorder...again. They have it on Wayfair for cheaper but with a different name. I am terrified that it is a cheap knockoff, but need to either get my GC tile now or start from scratch and find tile I can get him now. according to the specs, the main differences I can find between the Kenridge at Tilebar and the Ivy Hill "Montgomery" at Wayfair and other sites are the weight, 76lb for Kenridge and 73 for Montgomery; the thickness; 10.8 for Kenridge and 10.4 for Montgomery, and the water absorption: <.5 for Kenridge and 3-7% for Montgomery. So clearly a cheaper knock off. But is it as good looking and "good enough" for the job it needs to do (in my case a cabin shower with occasional spurts of use). My major concern is one bad review for Montgomery that said it had a cheap "dot matrix" woodgrain. It is so hard whether to trust one bad review or the 5 good ones who may not be as picky as me and the "one." I ordered a sample but I should have ordered the tile from tilebar a week ago so I am stressed.

Which one did you end up choosing? I’m also in the same dilemma

Fatima, Many, many things are not in stock. Everywhere. (A lot has to do w/employee shortages, Fuel prices (i'm paying 5.60 for a gallon of gas here) shipping containers sitting at the port, and other nonsense You'll just have to wait.

I ended up getting samples from Tilebar and wayfair. While I love the photos, I found the samples looked so pale I was worried about them not standing out enough. Add that to my worries about the size and how much waste would occur with cuts, I chickened out. Seeing Beth's picture I now wonder if I should have gone for it! I ended up with maple-look planks, I'm pretty happy with the actual tile but haven't seen the install yet. I also went with white curb and bench but charcoal floor which I also now question-Geez thanks @Beth Kovalsky!! ;)

I'm not a fan of niches, but I love simple utility of teak or hinoki benches in showers. I see you have a built in bench...that and the window ledge seem like good places for shampoo etc.

Beth, what grout did you use with your Kenridge ribbon maple tile? Did you use the one they recommended on tile bar? Just don’t want the grout to stick out too much. If grout lines are small, some are recommending unsanded grout, what do you think?

Hello Beth! Would love to know how hard it is to keep this tile clean with the ridges? Have you found a good way to care for it. My only hesitation is that it may be high maintenance. Would appreciate your thoughts/experience so far. Thanks!

@Brianna, I do not have this tile in my house, but I did get a sample of it. The ridges were more an illusion than anything. They are no deeper than a grout line on a floor tile would be. At least that was the case for the brand I looked at. But check a sample first to be sure they all are similar.

I too would love to hear from someone who has the tile installed about maintenance….

@sara could you share what you used to finish the ends of the tile?

do you have photos of shower spaces with the White ? is it difficult to have enough material when the tile pieces are so large

I bought maple ribbon tile from Floor and Decor, Dimensions, $6.29 a sq foot, almost half of Kenridge. Only comes in one color, lighter but still half the price. The tile guys were perfectionists. They have to be to get it right. what they thought would take 6/7 hours, took them 11. They came at ten and left at 9pm, but it's lined up and perfect. Completely transformative.

They broke two. From what I've read, they're not difficult to maintain. Hope not as I plan to do the other bathroom in it, get tile floors that look like wood planks....japanese style bath. I wrote this to be helpful. It is very unique and so very beautiful.

As a p.s. I bought the Dimensions tile, had a soap niche 12x12 made of the same tile, it also looks really great, right in the center of the center wall. The other thing I saw I almost thought of doing is plank wood tile for the soap dish which also looks great.
