This Yankee LOVES snow, especially, when it MELTS!

Seriously, I don't mind the snow, as long as it (like visiting relatives), DOES NOT LINGER!

Up here in NJ, we've had very little snow so far, but some storm from Cali is incoming to the East!

P.S., One year ago, we were barbecuing outside, it was in the low 70's in North Jersey.

I'm hoping to have moved back to the snow that Does Not Linger phase. Much better that way. I'll be getting that snow storm starting on Saturday.

i don't mind snow and ice as long as it's warm enough in the day, to be melting.

Then, it's really a beautiful thing. Yeah, that western storm to be here around Tuesday AM. But February forecast is for temps much above normal in the East.

Will the witch Hazel flowers survive the drops in temp? Your designs created with buried bottles and rock are so interesting and creative. Love how they look from your higher vantage point and the bit of snow.

Yes the witch hazel flowers are very cold hardy. They curl up and hide in snow and below freezing cold and reopen for business when the sun comes back out. They are blooming a few weeks later this year because we are having a real winter. Their normal bloom period is mid January to the first of March. This is the first time I have seen them go from nothing to a full bloom. The process is usually more drawn out.

The Nazca Lines of Peru were an inspiration to my design thinking.

Had to look that one up - Geoglyph - my new word for the day! I had been trying to see a labyrinth in the stone layout but could see it wasn‘t - I decided it looked like ferns unfurling - the suggestion of imagination. 😊

Ferns unfurling. That is a new one. I like it. It is always so interesting to hear what people see. Imagination as a design element.

Kitty seemed to enjoy the sun.

The kitties have been in hibernation for weeks. Like me, they have a minimum operating temperature and are not fond of snow between their toes. They like garden walks because I scare the bigger varmints away and help keep them safe.

SW PA, eh? Pittsburgh is the cloudiest major US city, followed by Cleveland, OH. Seattle is third. Erie, PA is fourth.

A beautiful snow has begun to fall. According to the diagnosis it may not stop until Tuesday morning. I live in Siberolina.

@bengz6westmd-you are spot on! Unfortunately, for the last several years, droughts have posed a significant impact on planting selections, watering sufficiently (and the obviously associated water bills...), and watering long distances from the house (too costly to consider underground watering systems on sloped/large properties). Mulch has become too costly for professional installations ($1000.00/inch) in my locale, and too difficult for elderly and those with physical impairments. Oh for a large, level lot (although I personally enjoy the OP's!).

Even up here in Vermont we don’t have our usual amount of snow. It used to be that it arrived in November or December and we didn’t see grass again until March or sometimes April. Now it snows and then it rains. Dreary.

@ceilsan32 I have come to like working in level gardens.

Snowing until Tuesday?! Gosh. So many years since I lived in winter snow states of MT, AK & NE. We had a few minutes of snow flurries here in PNW a couple days ago and that was all over the local news - our excitement for the day. I do hope you have a good supply of necessities stocked up - whiskey, wine or hot chocolate as the mood strikes. I see from your picture that bicycle is still on its airborne journey. Nice touch with the bells. I think there are many of us who would enjoy strolling through your property keeping an eye out for these unexpected touches of whimsy!

KW I don't so much live in a snow state as I live above the snow line. There have been many enjoyable garden tours over the years of the wild cultivated gardens on this mountain. I live next door to Bulbarella Stinze. There is a lot of ground to cover. Which reminds me I need to make contact about a small garden club that was interested in a tour of the Winter Garden. That has to happen without snow though.

My business based in North Jersey, but I live in the Hudson Valley NY near Woodstock.

8"-16" coming my way starting tonight. Even in North Jersey. Ugh!

Only a couple of storms in the last month that melted. Nothing significant but we've had an Arctic blast last few days. Below zero with windchill.

Christopher, yet another item I needed to look up - Bulbarella Stinze. Amazing gardens On your mountain. Acquainted myself with your Blog - quite the adventures in different places to live that you’ve had. My one trip to NC was @ 6 years ago to visit old friends who’d moved from OR to Charlotte. We added that side trip in to our road trip over some of Route 66. Beautiful country out your way and so very different from HI.

My mother Bulbarella Stinze. I type her name out to be stored in the Cloud.

    A beautiful and living legacy

If you have not found this yet, this tells the story of how my mother got her name.

Fairly substantial snowstorm in the US mid-Atlantic states & northward yesterday, continuing today.

Currently 24 degrees with sleety kind snow here in Siberolina.

Christopher, now I understand “Stinze is a thing“. Indeed! What a glorious show your mountain top must put on each year. And, it’s not too far away now after this snow storm blows on through the eastern US. I’m just now seeing the first crocuses pop up here so the daffodils aren’t too far away.

I'm not that far from you but so far no snow--just cold. You can keep that snow stuff up there where you live. I love yours and your Moms bulbs. Do you have to dig the daffs up every so many years? If I don't dig and divide they don't bloom. The crocus and grape hiacynth bulbs stay closer to the surface so they are less trouble.

Spring bulb season goes from the first of March with lots of crocus and anemone to mid May with the Spanish Bluebells, Hyacintoides hispanica finishing things off. The daffodil peak bloom tends to be around April 1st. Tons of the smaller minor bulbs like puschkinia, chionodoxa, muscari and scilla have naturalized. I have been mixing in more of the native spring ephemerals. All of it is weather depending.

Mom used to dig and divide the daffodils quite often. That is how they ended up in my garden. Not so much anymore. Her last big push was spreading the snowdrops, galanthus, around.

I think we may have a bit more snow before the Stinze begins this year. For me it was learning this form of gardening with bulbs had an actual name.

Is that where you plant your tomatoes? That would be a lot of tomatoes.

My guess was supports for either dahlias or peonies.....that’s what we do here! I know they’re tomato cages but they have many uses.

Chris C does a lot of things for show !?

Yes I do aim for roadside attraction. I'm in competition with the Pink Plemmons House a few miles down the byway.

@Christopher CNC do you have any photos of your space in bloom or filled out? Would love to see that!

You can see my gardens in full lush greenery with flowers galore at my blog Outside Clyde. Just look in the archives. The show starts in late March and April with the Stinze of spring bulbs.

Still learning the curve on the Houzz site. The archives here?(if there is one)

Not the archives here, though there is plenty of me here, the archives at my blog.

Snow-storm in the south on 1-3-22. Just missed me.

It got me. Warm 50 degree rain followed by four inches of slop that stuck. First snow of the winter which is very very late. My snowdrops and witch hazels had started blooming. I am currently waiting for the sun to melt my truck which is likely frozen shut. My Japanese Holiday Tree was looking festive.
