Heat-loving edibles include tomatoes, eggplant, okra, some peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, corn, melons, basil, bush and pole beans.

But keep in mind, even the most resilient plants can be damaged by excessive heat if they are not cared for. Or, like tomatoes, they may stop setting fruit in extreme heat but will resume fruiting when it cools down. Also, high humidity contributes to diseases, so you have to choose your varieties carefully and go with hybrids developed with your growing conditions in mind.

Winter is vegetable growing season in S. Florida for starters. To have success in the heat of summer you will have to shift from more common vegetable crops to tropical foods. You may be able to grow some heat loving crops like eggplant or okra in the summer, but overall your summer is like my winter when the vegetable garden is at rest.
