What could I put on the wall to make the space look nice? I want to get a new area rug, too. Please don’t mind the clutter and toys. Thanks!!

    Sorry about the lighting too

As far as art goes I don’t think you need much. I’d say less is more in this space. And to bring this room together I’d empty it and start fresh. Maybe consider a light slip cover. Wall moldings. A lighter rug.

@Melissa R love that third rug. Could you please send me the link?

@JAN MOYER thanks. I like the colors but not the stripes so much. I think I do need a new rug though after seeing the pictures

A few thoughts from a nonpro- I think you need to define the two spaces a bit more. I would add a rug under your dining table, find a larger canvas for above your buffet, and add some height to the ends of your buffet (Vase w/ some faux branches, lamps, or candles, etc.) I would check out the pottery barn catalogs for ideas of how to decorate the beautiful buffet you have. You could add a tree inbetween the two spaces. Then I would remove the small decorative items behind the couch. I think less is more. I am interested to see what the pros say. I think you have a beautiful space. With a few small changes is all you need!

Thank-you @Ac Lb! I’ve been wanting to get a rug under the table, too. The painting above the buffet is one of my favorites and I don’t think I have anywhere else to put it. i love your idea of adding some height to the buffet.

You’re welcome! If you love your wall art keep it! I think adding height to your buffet will do the trick. You could also flank the sides of your painting with candle sconces.

@JAN MOYER i added a picture of the rug if you have any other advice, thanks. Or if anyone is an area rug master i would love some advice. I think it’s so helpful when people photoshop the room like @Melissa Rso if anyone can do that I would really appreciate it.

I know faux trees are frowned upon, but after killing a couple of real trees, I found this one on Amazon that I absolutely love! I highly recommend it... I have searched everywhere pb, Ballard’s, grandin road... none compare in price or quality!!

@Ac Lb I never would have thought of adding candle sconces. I think this would help since the painting is smaller than the buffet. I really appreciate it so much.

You’re welcome, but I’m not a pro. You might want to see what they suggest. One thing for sure though... do not replace your art over the buffet if you love it! It’s hard to find art wo that speaks to you.

I found the rug that @Melissa R recommended!! What do you all think of this one? it’s on MAJOR sale

Ok the hubby doesn't like the pattern of the area rug above. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

@JAN MOYER do you have any suggestion?

There are so many rugs similar to the style you have here. The question is if that’s the route you want to go? Meaning to say that I think the couch will need a slip cover to be geared to a more traditional style. Here are a few I just found that I really love.

I would stay away from medallions pattern on an area rug, it makes it hard to center a coffee table to the rug sometimes.

After find an area rug, add drapes to your windows. It will make the room a little cozier. Add a large decorative basket for small toys, and another for throws and pillows to be contained.

To me, it looks like your lamps could be larger on the sofa table with the art. The art is very large and the lamps look too small.

In the dining room, I would use the art you have there, but add more, giving you a small art arrangement. Or a round mirror above the buffet.

@HU-187528210 I don’t think I want to do a slipcover, but a new rug could work.

@njmomma i think I want to remove the lamps all together. We don’t ever turn them on anyway. what do you think about that?

I would try and see how you like it.

Move them to the dining room and see if they work there for decoration.

Here is a pic with more light.

I like your current rug in your living room. It's pretty. I do think you need more color though...maybe through your decorations and throw pillows and throws you can achieve that.

    Thanks @Melissa R!!!!

Given your furniture, a rug with a medallion center will be off center. Go for an overall pattern without a medallion or defined border.

I moved the lamps from the sofa table.

I think what you currently have on your sofa table is too small and spread out. I don’t think you need anything behind the sofa because the wall art is a perfect size and all you really need. I think the items you currently have Arevtoo small. It appears cluttered. I think you can easily correct it. I would look at pics online of mantle Decor... you want to add height to the ends on the table to frame in your artwork. Maybe a vase with faux branches on one side and Two or three staggers candles or one large candle lantern on the other side. Either nothing in the center or 3 stacked books in the center. You want your art to shine... so you don’t want too much there to distract the eye away from it. You can place one or two frames next to the vase and one or two next to the lantern. I think there should be some free space in between the items do it won’t look cluttered. Ive added pictures to give you ideas of what might look nice.
