What to do with this ugly lightwell?

Hi! We have this lightwell in a lower ground bedroom. When shutters are open it looks awful. We can repaint it white again, but the damp will come through it before too long - wondering have you wonderful people better ideas? it is quite shaded for planting. I could use fake plant screening, but that might make the room look dark (it is quite dark already). Does anyone have a suggestion?! Thanks!

I have no idea what you are asking about. Waht are the slats in the foregound and if you get moisure in the space then you need to address that. Take a picture from outside to show where this is

This is from inside - will try to get an outside picture shortly. The slats are wooden slatted shutters, currently open. the moisture is not in the house, it is in the lightwell only, where the wall of the light well is retaining earth.

What about looking into decorative window well liners? There are lots of companies that make them, and a lot of variety. They are made from heavy gauge vinyl.

@Laura Hill - I had no idea such a thing existed!!! I'll be hitting Google, thanks for the tip!! I had considered artificial green wall but worried it might make the room darker
