If that’s what you like go for it. Would you consider extending them up to the ceiling. It’s not a lot of space and it’ll make all the difference

First get some proper lighting in the space before choosing any colors for anything. If budget is tight then a track light with 5 heads all LEDs 4000K that will at least light the space . If the counter is staying as is then get rid of the tile backspalsh you already had a backspalsh with the counter material. I would like to see the whole kitchen and if you are planning to pay to have the cabinets done properly you might want to reconsider the cost and if DIY is your plan IMO unless you have painted many cabinets this is never a good idea. The prep alone will take hours and hours to do and then you need a place to spray the doors and drawer fronts that space needs to be totally dust free. So maye post a couple mor epics of the whole space to see if this is worth the price or the work IMO cabinets to go to the ceiling would be a huge improvement and for sure the new appliances .
