Looking like Northern Virginia to me. We see a bunch of those in Dale City which was my old home area.

There are several things you can do, to include:

1. Full height windows in a 3 window assembly where the bottoms will require some tempering
2. Close up the bottom and frame it out to blend with the exterior facade and put shorter windows, you pick, in the newly created holes
3. Shorten the opening and install a bay if you want that projection look

While the wood between the windows was not "intended" to be structural in nature, the reality is that it is carrying some of the roof load. Especially when it has a bunch of snow (this isn't a bunch) on it.

Just as an fyi for the future to make you sound more in the know, that is a "bow" window. And WoW's advice is spot on.

Thank you for the response! I didn’t know the houses here were that distinctive but yes we’re in northern Virginia! What I understand from your answer is that popping out a large rectangular window in place of the BOW WINDOW ;) will require some major structural work to make up for the somewhat load bearing cross hatching. I will look into those other options you listed. There are a lot of similar houses in our area so hopefully I can find one example that I like
