Disconnecting propane range?

I'm switching from a propane range to electric, but the propane company tells me they won't be able to pick up the tank for a couple of months and I'd like to go ahead and disconnect the old range. My initial thoughts about this:

1) close valve on the tank

2) light a burner on the range to burn off any propane left in the line

3) close valve at the range

4) disconnect the range

But please set me straight if this is misguided or not safe or if you know about this sort of thing and have other thoughts. Much appreciated!
