yes you can - probably with some graphics, and also you may explore of applying wall paper on it.

Ok, last question, I got an estimate from one of the people that installed the new cabinets for $2200 to "spray" paint the cabinets, using an automotive/enamel paint. Is that high? I know it would be quite a bit of work for me to do it myself, with a roller and latex paint, then having to seal it with poly, and I think using a sprayer would look nicer, more professional, but I'm worried about having to tape everything off and the smell. I have two young children at home and two mastiff puppies......

ok, I lied, another question, the backsplash, it's a matte finish stone looking ceramic tile, so paint will adhere. I know cause I have a few extra and I was playing around with my stencils and stenciled gecko's and chili peppers with arylic paints, which washed off cause I didn't seal it. Anyhow, I don't think I can afford to have it removed and retiled, so should I try to paint it too?

That sounds like a lot ....but knowing the price of a new kitchen in the US I don't know for sure !
You could do one a week ,,if you gloss them you don't need to seal them

Thanks Snaggy, that's a good idea, I can do the one closest to the white cabinets and see how it looks and holds up against my dogs and kids. I'm really worried about the fumes from using the automotive paint. When the installer was touching up the new cabinets, I had to open all the windows and turn on fans cause the smell was very strong. But on the other hand, my family is not gentle with anything and I'm worried if I do it myself, the finish won't hold up. So far the finish on the new cabinets has stood up to unseemingly large amounts of dog slobber, grubby hands/feet, toys being rammed into them and constantly being wiped down with a Norwex cloth and sometimes the Mr Clean magic easer. I like doing home improvement projects, but hate when it look like I did it myself. :(

In the UK you can buy low odour gloss don't know if you can get it there ?

I did mine a section at a time and used low voc semi-gloss paint. Very light sanding and a primer was all prep needed. They are oak too and grain is apparent (I don't know that you can get rid of it in oak) but I like the look. Less than $100 when paint was on sale.and my labor. Remove doors and all hardware. I chose not to poly so touch up would be easier if necessary. I'm happy with them.

there is a wood filler.. its a putty.. and also a sealer.. If wood grain filler isn't used It's important to seal with oil base because when the water in the latex soaks in a little and will make the grain rise.

I would definitely paint the cabinets white to give the kitchen a cleaner, more uniform feel. also, the white and black on the countertops go great together!

I'll start researching paints at our local hardware store. I'm super excited, I've been on the fence about painting them since the new cabinets were installed. Mainly cause once I start, there's no going back.

HI -- Paint the old bases dark like the counter tops and paint the old top ones the white of the new . More modern !

the doors, are a maple hardwood, with a very smooth finish and the cabinets have a solid wood frame, but the sides are a partical board with a "maple" looking paper veneer glued to it, so I don't feel so bad about painting the bases, they have big scratches through the finish now anyhow. I even thought about removing the center panels and getting beadboard to match and installing it. I have the cabinet that was over the refrigerator to play around with as a test subject before actually doing the cabinets in the kitchen.

No. I think its looking already good enough. The wood cabinets are looking nice. I think you can use some artistic work on white cabinets.

HI - What I suggested with the dark bases with your counter tops would look good and nothing to do with size of kitchen . It's been done in con-do kitchens and it looks very high end . Black and white , it's just like a Tuxedo . Are you going to paint the walls --- I don't care for the two different wall colors .... that's what would make a room look smaller ... too many color against the cabinets . If your place is small over all , it's best to just have one color through out .

If you want gloss Fine Paints of Europe hollandlac brilliant brushes out very well. Do not roll high gloss cabinet or the roll and brushed areas will have different textures which will in turn reflect the light differently. You might look at our hand brushed Porcelana cabinets on our houzz site

I would definitely paint the cabinets. I agree that the space is not big enough to justify 2 cabinet colors. Sherwin Williams has a great app that you can play with colors.

Angela, I've never seen painted cabinets hold up so I never recommend it but after looking at what you did with the tall white cabinets, they look great and very functional. What if you have the same people replace just the wood cabinets on each side of the window in white?

No...I would look into an updated back splash...something with color... and change the color of the walls. Also...decluttering the kitchen will help tremendously. Other than that...it's gorgeous!

Love the white cabinets with the aqua/teal walls. Also, as Kelli suggested, try to de-clutter then use aqua and white accessories in your kitchen and see if you like the look. If not, you can paint (easier now with new products than it was years ago).

Yes paint them but I would have it professionally done so you get the nice even look that only comes from them being sprayed. Have you considered cabinet wrapping? A friend of mine just had this done to her cabinets & it turned out fantastic!! Also, have them put a conversion varnish on them & they will hold up :) I would never have a lacquer finish on painted cabinets!! I hate it even on stained cabinets. We have conversion on our Dover white cabinets & it's wonderful!!

And yes replace the crown to match the new white cabinets :)

There are plenty of artisan painters that can brush your cabinets to an extremely fine finish.

The only things I would paint in this kitchen are the peninsula wall and the shelving brackets, because they're too white. Paint the brackets the same color as the wall, and the peninsula in the blue or another color coordinating with the adjacent room.
The room looks fantastic with different colors on the walls and wood! The fact is they don't match; trying to make them appear to could be a mistake. It's nice to have a touch of natural wood when you can.

If you paint the cabinets white, then consider not painting the one single cabinet to the left of the window. I would stain this upper and base cabinet a darker colour. Make it look like a custom furniture piece. Add a new larger crown. Use 1/4 x 2-1/2" wood and create a panel look on the side of both the base and upper cabinet. You could also have your cabinetmaker build or shop around for two decorative brackets that would look like they hold the upper cabinet.
