Drab Dining Room

I’ve put this room off for too long. We planned to put a window in but decided to hold off for now.

Need help figuring out how to make this room really pop. I’ve considered painting the tray ceiling, doing an accent wall, and adding a large mirror.

I also need to get a rug but don’t know where to start. I do have white upholstered end chairs but they’re locked away from the cats unless we have guests over...

Any advice? I’ve included photos of adjacent rooms for reference.

Can the light be lowered it feels high?

What about a credenza oh big blank wall and some bright art. I love all the plants

An interesting and lively rug could make a big difference in there. Some from CB2 for example:

I think that back wall would be great for an accent wall ... a geometric wood trim, wallpaper, etc.

It's drab because everything is gray. Love the green accent wall inspiration photo

What great spaces you have, I would do great big art on the back wall of the dining room and a beautiful area rug as mentioned above.

I don't like accent walls. To me they are a bit trendy.

    Wow! Living all this inspo!

It’s much easier to see visually above so thank you for throwing out some designs! I really like this last photo and the window treatment is a nice touch!

Love Celery’s last photo, looks awesome!

Love the window treatment. Definitely like the idea of a rug. What about a chair rail. Or some half wall wainscoting and wallpaper on top half. Or even just wallpaper. I agree to skip the accent wall...

The thought of painting the tray ceiling is great~
It Breaks up any monotony in the ceiling and would accent your light fixture

Stay up-to-date with painting tray ceiling. Do not paint , it would look dated. Think twice.

Artwork on the blank wall would do wonders to add life to your pretty space, as would a rug. I would add those two elements and leave everything else as is. It's serene and lovely already.

Huge big piece of artwork with a nice side table below, some candle sticks and a nice cozy rug. Do not paint tray ceilings

Here are some options for the room. I would also paint the tray ceiling. The ceiling fixture is mounted a bit too high IMO>

What about painting the back wall a dark navy and placing two gold mirrors behind the light fixture?

It’s tough to envision but I feel like it’d fit in with the rest of the house better. Just worried the space will be too dark and the hideous heater will stick out like a sore thumb. So many options!

BeverlyFladeziner .. how do you make those cool photos where you can change the decor ? I need help with my room lol

I’ve looked all over the place for an app... can’t seem to find one that’s free.

Love all of Beverly’s pics. That’s a beautiful blue that goes so nicely with the wood furniture

The rugs are installed with the app on Rugs-Direct.com or RugsUSA.com or esalesrugs.com. For the rest of the adjustments I use MS Paint and simply copy, cut, and paste the objects onto the existing photos.

Really appreciate your time spent putting together these options!

Update! What needs to go? Feels a little disconnected/busy but maybe I’ve been looking at it too long.

    Further back

I like it! I do think a rug would pull it together.

    Rug is on the way!

I love the Roman shade look. I’ll definitely add these at some point!
