Landscape and painting make good impact as well.

The house belonged to a guy who had 2 children and adopted 6 more, so there are odd additions everywhere (5 bathrooms, one of which we had removed before we took possession). The disjointed parts extend to the back (top photo) but there I have a pretty clear vision of what I'd like to do (in the bottom photo you can get an idea of the style). The pool fence and landscaping will also be redone (obviously...). Thinking of using river rounds with sea grass.

Isn’t it great that you went inside and really looked further! If it were “only” paint and landscaping, I’m sure the ideas you get here would work very well, like Celery’s vision, but your inspiration photo for the back of the house is quite ambitious. I think you should work with an architect for the whole picture to come together.

The scale of the project for the back of the house will be smaller, but yes, I will probably need to work with an architect or at least a general contractor who has some vision. I do like the ideas that Celery has, particularly that open porch. After changing the siding, windows, and the roof, I'm hoping to have enough in the budget to do a bit more.
