Yes trying to get a little bit of a modern farmhouse vibe with the bronze hardware ,.. thinking of putting in a Carrara marble for backslash.

Why no marble out of curiosity. I thought the veins tie with the countertop and the fixtures white would brighten the kitchen up

colorwise, they tie, but marble would compete with the granite-just the nature of stones. You want to see a beautiful whole, rather then switch your eyes between movement in marble and granite. If granite at least was absolute black, with no movement or busyness whatsover..and even then I personally wouldn't put two stones in such close proximity together, they like to star alone.

Like izeve, I'd choose ceramic tile..as for shape and color..one has choice. Handmade is beautiful, gives you just the slight variation to admire even the simplest tile.

Would be helpful to know what are the floors.

Our contractor and tile showroom rep both suggested that a glass backsplash is too trendy so I'm really getting confused. Can you send some examples? The floor in the kitchen is not good either but we cannot put any more upgrades into yet.

I think a porcelain tile, not glass, with some texture would be a good fit for your kitchen.

Oh, thank you for posting the picture, very helpful. seeing the floors-definitely no marble, nothing with veines or speckles, and no cooler white/gray either. You floors are already "busy" enough, since they 're porcelain emulating stone(correct me if I'm wrong) They're in very "warm" realm, so the backsplash needs to be too, if not very warm, then at least not cold a color.

And they're not bad. Actually nothing in your kitchen is. It can be even better-but it doesn't mean it's bad. It's a pretty subtle tile you have there, there are so many bossier ones out there that one needs to tip toe around.

The backsplash seems dated because of the accent, otherwise the color seems to work. Or something similar but lighter, or reflecting light more, like on the last picture izeve posted.

Wood floors would give more opportunities for color, because most wood just work with everything. But you're working with the current flooring, your backsplash needs to be a) good with granite b) good with floor tiles too.

You can do handmade tile and you'll love it even if just simple subway or square. You can do shapes maybe, I'd choose something soft then. I mean, not very harsh lines. To pick up vibe from slightly rounded granite,

Glass can work, but glass is sleeker, I think ceramics are better for Farmhouse vibe.

Even with new pendants and hardware(not that current hardware is bad..pendants, I'd change, yes), it will be refreshed space. It's a nice kitchen already.

Is it a new house for you? It's just the kitchen is very clean)) and empty.

We perceive places that are empty, slightly different. All the shortcomings jump on us big.

And sometimes there's no mistake-they are as huge as we picture them to be.

But sometimes small tweaks is all that needed. Like here. small tweaks, and your personal touch.

Thank you for the comments! We actually were thinking to redo the floors down the road, just not now. Yes it's a new house for us, we've only restained the floors and updated paint. We love it and just want to brighten/update the kitchen it a bit is all. I'll show you a picture of it with the floors that surround it for more context.

Yes, the floor in the kitchen will boss you around somewhat as long as it's there. Frankly as much as I LOVE tiles and any excuse to put them in lol-I wouldn't be doing backsplash for now.

But say you decide to, and really want to, and I understand you.

I did right now extensive research-and the last picture posted by izeve is the only one i found to be beautiful- given your context.

Other pictures of kitchens like yours either have other elements (floors are wood, or countertops are white, or something else), and thusit allowed for more choice in colors for backsplash, etc, etc.

And yet with some other pictures I don't quite understand how one can use these renos as inspiration. Not everything newer means it was executed well enough.

So I have nothing to post for now yet))

Maybe give us hint on the backsplash budget, and we'll come up with suggestions, knowing that we work with elements such and such in range such and such.

When you think about backsplash-will you tile around that window? What is the plan?

I liked couple pendants posted above-especially the colored glass one and the black..I think because they give more presence. I'll try to look for pendants too. These here are too small not doing the kitchen justice.

What is your suggestion around the window? I thought to either tile the entire wall around the window or just that little line under it that's currently there.

We feel the paint and tile on that window wall are clashing and that's what prompted us to want to update the backsplash. Definitely torn here because my husband and contractor are both into the marble.

We also thought about painting the cabinets white and changing the floors down the road to extend the life of the kitchen (and then do a full kitchen remodel maybe 10-15 years). So that's why I'm trying to ignore the kitchen floors for now.

The paint and the backsplash are clashing just a tiny bit, yes, but not enough to change backsplash.

Change backsplash if you really dislike the current one and have enough funds and time and energy to change backplash.

I'm not even sure they're clashing-maybe it's an empty space over the window that feels odd, a bit naked, and you also have trim there so it's more visible. So that's why I asked what are the plans.

I'd tile over the window if I had the opportunity:) Say if you choose shapes-that might be too many cuts..if you go with longer narrower subway, it might look more tidy.

Trim suggests backsplash all the way up.

another possibility-you take the trim out. It doesn't continue into the dining, thus it doesn't have to be there.

By the way, is the furniture yours? Asking because it has many rounded lines. If it's yours I know you like rounded lines. If not-I know that I don't know your preferences until you tell me:)

I'm sorry but you can't ignore the floor. It's not the floor one ignores. It will avenge you for ignoring it)) work with it until you decide to redo. When you know your new flooring-you'll decide whether to paint or not.

Right now you can paint it creamy white too, but it won't prolong its life-tons of money (or time in case you DIY) to cover perfectly nice cabinets that you'll need to baby more. You might have to paint them twice during these 10-15 years, too, if you have somebody who's hard on things, in your family. I have somebody who's hard on things and I have painted cabinets, so I might be subjective here.

Also. Arched doors will always say "the kitchen was built betwen years such and such".

Nothing bad about them either if you ask me. So they're arched doors. It's still a nice kitchen overall.

imagine it with a nice kettle and tea towel and basket with fruits, and cool untensil holder etc. And add new pendants and hardware to the mental picture. Maybe a nice rug on the floor? A plant on the counter? It'll be great.

Amazing previous home owners left us the table and the bar stools. I think it's a classic kitchen and prefer to leave a is, it just needs a little lift. Everything was a bit too yellow-ey for us. The walls were a darker, the window and door trims were a natural wood (unpainted), and the floors were a gold/yellowish stain prior to our updates. Immediate goal is to brighten it up a bit add some black accents and eventually we will redo it. We have a contractor doing the work for us.

We've decided to cancel the backsplash update. Husband didn't want to go for any other tile. Thank you for all of your advice, I think one thing after another would end up clashing. I think maybe I can update the hardware and lights and call it a day :)

I also think so, and I think you're making the right call. It IS a nice kitchen. Congratulations on the house again! Can you post a closeup of your hardware? They look okay to me and I'm not sure adding more brown/bronze tones is the right move especially since you're leaving the backsplash as is.

New fixtures will make a huge difference. Yours are too small, too high and too modern.
It would be nice if you could put all your dollars into some gorgeous lights.

If you cannot re-do your backsplash for a while what is the style/look you are seeking or like? Do you like the earthiness/tones or do you want to add color? Your cabinet pulls look quite modern are you wanting something more traditional/classic? I think as others said new lights will help a lot and maybe a set of new stools with just give the re-fresh you are wanting.

I had something like this in mind for pulls and same finish for light fixtures.

I think we still might redo backsplash to a similar one just less yellow. It’s currently tumbled marble I believe. I’m looking at different stones that are more white to brighten it up but also have some earthiness to it and not busy.

@Kat M very pretty hardware. I am loving the black hardware look these days. Especially if you end up painting the cabinets.
