A story of two moves. Winter Frost looked very cute here in the beginning of 2019 but needed to be moved to expand this bed.

11 days later and it looks quite happy, even excited.
It put on a lot of growth the next year, but looks ragged and leggy. Could be from the late frosts or maybe it needs more light or both. We'll see what next year brings.Oh, its probably because this pic was taken in the middle of September. I'll see if I can find a younger pic, lol. OK, this looks much better from the end of July. Winter Frost on the right with a bonus Wrinkle in Time in the upper left. Like any Doug Beilstein hybrid, this grows great in my garden.(Arctic Blast upper right, Crested Surf on left, Smokey Mountains (another DB hybrid) in front).

Wolverine looks fine here in the beginning of May.

By the end of May its looking a little mobbed, even in a spin out bag.When I moved it out of this shady spot into a sunnier spot, I made a little tent for it.

Two weeks later the tent is gone (actually 12 days). Taken at noon.

By the end of July it still looks great.It only gets morning sun and dappled shade until just before noon when it gets a little more direct sun.

I've got Wolverine but it's not doing well (but that is probably because it's in Buckeye country,) Wheee! and Warwick Comet which is struggling but it probably needs to be moved. I also bought a Whirlwind years ago but I don't remember where it's at--I simply have to take pictures and map out the hosta beds this year--that's always my goal but there's so much to do in the yard. Steve, love Well Shaked--it's a gorgeous streaker, where did you get it?

I bought Well Shaked from LotG in 2018 via mail order the year before I visited in 2019. Its a good grower so far. I may need to separate out a mediovariegated eye this year. The white streaks may have a tendency to melt out or it just needs another season to adjust. I noticed LotG isn't offering it this year and now I'm noticing stuff they are offering - thanks a lot.

mbug, your Warwick Comet looks great! How much sun does it get? Mine hasn't grown well and really needs to be moved elsewhere if it will have a chance to survive. Everyone who has posted pictures seems to have gardens that are pristine and ready for garden tours--all of you certainly have great plants and beautiful gardens!

Waukon Water 6/20/20, a blue-green that does retain a subtle hint of blue in its dark green leaves all season. This plant was perfect from early spring through November 2020.

World Cup 7/19/20, a wonderful plant. It is did not look like much the first year, but it looked good this 2nd year. I grow it in a pot, which it does not seem to mind. This one looked great until 11/22/20!

Worldly Treasure 6/17/20, the dark green in front of Afterglow.

Worldly Treasure again, 6/14/2020. A good green can do serious work in the garden to unify a grouping of variegated plants.

Hosta_maker, the flowers on War and Peace are amazing, almost like Crinum! Wildest Dreams has dreamy coloration, too!

A few W's that survived - White Christmas and Whirlwind did not. I think I will replace Whirlwind if it doesn't come back but not WC, it has always been my worse slug magnet.

I know I'm a bit behind here, but I'm slow---the story of my life!

War Paint, bottom right (mid May). This is a small raised bed. It's one foot off the ground, sandwiched between the air conditioner (left) and wood retaining wall on the right. It's only about 2 feet in depth. So not a great place to grow, but it does get some sun here. War Paint wasn't doing well. I decided to try this location. I think it is doing well now, but now I have to figure out where to move it!

Steve, I really like William Lachman. It's very nicely streaked. Have you had to cut out many leaves that have reverted or not?

World Cup. One in a pot growing in more sun. One in ground. The one in the ground is one year older. You can see the difference in coloring and the difference in how compact the plant is.

Wrinkle in Time (in July) This is its first year. Looking forward to seeing what it looks like this year.

No reversions on William Lachman, but I've only been growing it since 2018.

Better late than . . . oh crap . . . Now I want War Paint.

Steve, you made me chuckle! Mike Shadrack, President of the Western New York Hosta Society, said that War Paint is a 2 for 1 hosta. It gives you the beautiful variegation in the early season. It then loses some or all of the variegation throughout the season and ends up looking similar to Niagara Falls.

Yep, now I don't need Niagara Falls. I think it will look good next to Bridal Falls. And I only added another 12 Hostas to the War Paint order including Guardian Angel which I think is also in your photo. It was easy since 8 of them were $10 or less and 6 of them are small, so hopefully I can shoe horn them in somewhere (or grow them in pots).

Lucky you Steve---that you have room for some more and got them at terrific prices! (And you are right about the other hosta in my photo being Guardian Angel!)

Who said I had room for them? Although, I do have plans to expand a couple beds removing more grass and some carpet roses. Just haven't told the DW, yet.

Steve, you wlll love Guardian Angel , it's one of my favorites. It grows like a weed in my yard. After 4 years, mine is well over 40 inches wide. I got a large plant but the growth has been amazing.
