GE Cafe Matte Black

A few months back we ordered all Cafe Matte Black appliances. Everything except the dishwasher has arrived. When they arrived Boxes were in great condition so we just opened corners to confirm they were black and stored safely. Remodel taking a bit longer then expected. Now that our base cabinets are out of garage I was able around the refrigerator box to see a sticker on back that reads “GE CAFE BLACK SLATE” and now I’m a bit nervous. Those don’t even exist right?

Yes, I’ve seen them in person but do the Matte Black appliances have a bit of shimmer to them? from visiting showroom with our cabinet sample I just thought I remembered a more true black color.

On that note can anyone point me in the direction of paint colors that area close match for the Cafe Matte Black?

When I was looking at them and trying to get color swatches, they told me the matte black and the black slate are the same color. There is a bit of shimmer/metallic flake to the color, but from six feet it just reads as a nice charcoal. (Definitely not true black.). It’s freaking gorgeous, though I might be biased.

@makmartell is this the only matte black appliance that you went with? I had my heart set on them for a whole kitchen reno, but went to the store the other day and the only model they had on the floor looked dull and cheap and I'm heartbroken! Would love some feedback from someone that actually has them. Thanks in advance!

@Martha Lucas it’s the only Cafe appliance I have. When we first moved in (almost two years ago) we bought a dishwasher and counter-depth fridge, both from Bosch, in their Black Stainless. Last fall we were finally ready to upgrade the stove to induction, and we ordered the Cafe Matte Black, which is very close in color (can’t tell the difference unless they are up next to each other). Eventually, though likely several years down the road, I like the color enough that we’ll probably get the vent hood, and wall oven if we rejigger the kitchen to allow for one. The floor model you saw, I wonder if it had just been through the wars with people messing with it? Dunno.

(if you’re in driving distance to western SC and want to visit mine, you are very welcome!)

That's very kind of you. I wish I was in a warmer state right now, but alas I'm up in CT. I will definitely take into account what you mentioned and thank you very much for the fast response!

@Martha Lucas that’s where we moved from! I grew up in Portland, and my husband and I lived in Waterford before we moved south. Stay warm!
