Otherwise of course a whole assortment of other plants could be brought into the scheme including woody ones for a complete garden scene. With normally a visit to an independent garden center that offered hellebores providing ideas including what might have been done with end cap displays. Except at the present time we are being told to avoid crowds even more than before because of the advent of more infectious COVID strains. (As in using curbside and home delivery, spending no more than 5 minutes at grocery stores, not going to doctor offices or working in conventional offices with multiple people present at all, and so on.) But you can still do web searches for pages showing and talking about planting combinations involving hellebores. And order plants to be shipped to you, instead of going and getting them at local outlets.

Christmas ferns

@ Embothrium - Definitely going to add more snowdrops. Yes, I'm not planning any in person visits to nurseries this year, sadly.

Cecily - Will Christmas Ferns take some sun?

I grow Purple Cone flowers with mine for the flowers in the summer when the Hellebore are not in bloom. Where I live in N. TX the Cone flowers prefer some shade to full sun.

Christmas ferns and autumn ferns can take a couple hours of morning sun in my climate. Of these two, autumn fern needs less moisture. I grew Christmas ferns in part shade in CT mixed with hostas and Solomon's seal.

Cecily - I have 'Ghost' and Japanese Painted Ferns which both do well in drier conditions. I've been meaning to try the Christmas fern so that's a great suggestion. The Autumn Fern though, spreads more than I'd like, so I'm staying away from that one. [g] Thank you!
