We have a hearth room (sitting area) and a breakfast area in our kitchen. Currently in the hearth room there is a trayed ceiling with a ceiling fan over a seating area. After remodeling and reworking the kitchen layout, we are thinking about switching the sitting area with the breakfast table, along with new lighting in both areas. We really use the current ceiling fan to circulate the heat from the fireplace in the winter. Without it, the heat just collects in the tray and barely warms the room. We would choose a chandelier-type fixture over the breakfast table, but this would remove the fan altogether in this space. How can we circulate the heat if we don't have a fan? Is a fan/chandelier combo a good idea or a bad idea? We have 9' ceilings with 10' in the tray of the hearth room, so the current ceiling fan setup isn't low enough to adequately light a breakfast table.
