A to-scale floor plan would help get the responses you are looking for.

Please take pictures of the adjoining areas. If you remove the pantry, you can add a countertop with cabinets above or you can move the fridge over to where the pantry is.

Pantry: widen doorway and use as new location for refrigerator, put new pantry behind wall where range is now with roll out shelves.

Island: Yes, small one. Leave 48" walking clearance on both sides, counter to counter. Maybe sink in island will give nice tight work triangle.

Remove upper cabinets and put decorative hood over cooktop/range will maximize ceiling look.

Almost anywhere else would be good. Not directly next to a wall would be a good start. No one can tell you what you do or do not have space for if you don’t post measurements.

If you can move your refrigerator into the space where the pantry is now located, you could move your dishwasher to the right of your sink. And then center your stove on the wall where it is currently located. That way, you will have working space on either side of your stove. If you decide to get new appliances, look for a counter depth fridge, and a slide in range vs. a free standing one. It will be the same functional size, but look more integrated in your space. If you do a small island, you could put a microwave drawer in that location. Just some thoughts...without a measured space.

If the pantry is removed there will be a flooring issue. Are there leftover tiles someplace...garage, crawl space, attic? Are you prepared to replace ALL the tile that probably runs throughout the condo.

What is your budget? You could improve the look by getting stainless appliances, painting the walls, pantry and pantry door one light color.

Remove everything from on top of the cabinets and the microwave (?) from the counter. Have you just downsized? There seems to be a lot of stuff on the counters, which crowds a small kitchen.

Are you sure that your pantry isn't part of a load-bearing wall? What else is in the pantry at the back? Electrical?

Great ideas so far. Love the idea of centering the stove and moving dishwasher to right of sink. Will look into the load bearing situation but the whole building used to be a high school and that was a large classroom so I doubt it.

I have no exact measurements because there is tenant there now. I want to plan before i move. I do plan to replace all floors, scrape retexture ceilings and replace cabinets, appliances etc. I have a healthy budget.

By floor tiles I am guessing 12 by 9

You can put the microwave in it, - or - the sink, - or - the dishwasher, -or - cabinets for recyclables and garbage - or, just cabinets, etc.

I am guessing that there is a reason for the skinny door to the pantry...that column may be structural. If you can paint the pantry door to match the wall surrounding it, it will blend in and be less obvious. You may be able to place a moveable island (with a finished back) behind the loveseat. White appliances tend to stand out more than stainless steel appliances. If you are considering replacing the cabinets, there are many styles and stains or paint colors to choose from. A more unified color scheme will look less choppy than the current five-color assortment. The layout seems logical for the space. The sink is quite small for kitchen use. If you add more counter by adding an island, you can get a larger sink. Your light fixture is more for directional lighting rather than general lighting...you will want your main prep area to be well lit.

Felizlady I looked and inside is quite wide so not sure why door is so skinny. There are other weird skinny doors in other rooms that open into larger closets. Maybe they were on sale.

The furniture is my tenants. Will switch appliances for sure and new cabinets, lighting sink etc

I have the same footage for my kitchen (including that wall smack next to the stove) with not as much wall cabinet space (I have a big window instead).

Inexpensive fix ideas:

The first thing I would do in your kitchen is get more overhead lighting. Make it light and bright. Right now, it seems gloomy to me.

If you like the roof slope and want to enhance it, light it!

Incorporate the microwave into the fan/hood above the stove.

I'm not sure how you'd load that DW while standing at the sink. Regardless, if this home has just one or two inhabitants, I would get a smaller model DW (which might be easier to load) and use the left over space for slim trash bin or recyclables.

If you just want to move things around slightly, you could swap positions between the stove and the adjacent drawers.
