Do you use the bench?

We recently got a few benches at a homegoods store near us. They don’t have an online site, and their in-store inventory changes a little all the time, so it involved checking in every few weeks/months. They were all wood, a couple different colors including one in a driftwood white that would blend in with your landscape well, and were reasonably priced.

My neighbor built two nice hefty benches out of cedar. Find a photo of the teak bench that you really want and build it with cedar.

Yes I use the bench and it will sit out in the weather all year. The wood slat ones rot quickly and teak, well that is teak. I wish. A good carpenter I am not. I could do rustic in cedar or black locust maybe.

im thinking you need a can of paint for those planters first ...

We have teak table, bench and chairs out year round in Boston MA. They just get a good scrubbing each spring and late summer with dish soap and water. We have had ours for 8 years and they are still in great shape. Should last at least 20 more. Are you opposed to teak? Some companies make cedar benches too.

Sarah I am not opposed to teak. I'm too poor for teak. We do have a lot of good antique and junk stores in these parts though.

Gotcha! Check your Craigslist postings every day- sometimes people give away teak furniture because it’s already weathered silver and they wanted it to remain brown. Seriously! The, ahem, stupidity of people sometimes....

Also check out any habitat for humanity resale shops. I know you’re in Western NC so if you’re near Asheville or Hendersonville there’s bound to be a good shop. Just keep checking!

I’m curious about the metal benches in Ontario. Are they in use in winter? I have visions of body parts frozen to the metal.

Ha ha floral_uk. I imagine all the body parts in Ontario are covered in non-stick surfaces in the winter. I can just imagine though.

it could be a simple as turning over the 5 gal bucket you carry your tools out there in ... on my 5 acres.. i alays had the bucker with pruners... hand shovel ... staking tie material ... bottle of water... etc ...

otherwise.. a rock.. a stump ... etc.. think outside your the box you already have your bench in ...

Ken I got plenty logs sitting and standing around, just not milled ones. That is a very good idea and would match my firepit benches. I need a bench there for me and for visitors. This bench is at the bottom of the handicapped ramp. This way people with mobility issues have the choice to enter deeper into the garden and a safe destination.

And there is a reason for the yellow. The yellow goes with the flow. In another month the place will be awash in yellow daffodils.

For OP's location I would also consider a bench made out of faux wood. Today these are seen in parks and bus stops. They don't have to be painted, don't rot and come in different colors.

If you have a lot of squirrels don't waste your money on anything plastic. I have 6 different types of plastic benches and the squirrels have done a number on them sharpening their teeth. The only one they have left alone isthe metal glider bench. I have had these benches for 25 yrs or more and they didn't start the chewing until 2 yrs ago. Squirrels are demons in many ways and I wish our cat would do more to decrease the population.

btaylor that Loll Design is the high end of faux wood outdoor furniture like sam_md was talking about. Completely out of my price range, but very nice. I like. I would certainly recommend it for clients.

I am of course getting lots of bench ads every where I go now. Amazing how that works, eh? This from Global Industrial is more my price range and they have a good collection to choose from.
