Blue shower tile

We are adding onto our house which will include a basement with full bath. There will be no window in the bath but there is great natural light in the basement bedroom. We'll also have a recessed light in the shower, a fan/light and light over the vanity. I love the idea of using navy or deeper shaded blue tile in the shower, but I don't know if it will be too dark? The bathroom will otherwise have lighter colors, light floor, pale oak vanity, a white-grey painted wall. I'd love to hear others thoughts or get other shower tile ideas. The collage below includes the blue tile I curr6have bookmarked. Thank you!

I have blue tiles in my bathroom and love them. There is no window but what is the difference since people use bathrooms when it is dark. 😀🤫 I have loads of lighting including canned lights, lights fir my makeup area ajd decorative sconces for ambient lighting.

I think it would be great. The only caution about dark tile is that it shows EVERYTHING - soap scum, water spots, etc. But for a guest area it presumably would be a lot less used so maybe that’s no big deal.

My tile is Precocious Blue from Encore amd it has a lot of what is called movement since it has many different shades and tones. It is very forgiving in terms of that kind of upkeep.

Dark paint or tile in a windowless bathroom works fine. I painted one of the bathrooms in my last home a deep blue green. It was a windowless bathroom and it was perfect because everyone turned on the lights upon entering the bathroom.

    Honest opinion-
Please don’t take harshly and don’t take it personally it’s just my take.
I think the idea is a great one! Sounds beautiful. However. I don’t think the floor tile ( I think it’s for your floors ) will benefit the space. It’s a lot of different tiles. I’d do the walls and floor one tile. The blue can be in the shower. That blue that you picked has a very greenish undertone. And maybe a bit too much BLUEEEE. again, love love the idea. What about a mostly blue and little bit of white patterned tile?

@hu thank you, we are painting the walls, not tiling, so there will only be floor and shower.

thank you all, you raise good points. I'll keep the blue on my maybe bucket!

I love that deep blue tile. It will go well with the light wood vanity. As long as there’s good lighting, I think it will look fantastic!

IMO the blue has no connection to anything else so it looks to me like “I love blue let’s throw it in here” IMO the simpler you do a bathoor finishes the longer you will like the bathroom so use the blue for towels when you are tired of blue change the towels. Even use if for wallpaper anything but tiled shower. Also how does this space connect to the bedroom if it is aguest room . IMO they need to work in tandem.

You didn’t mention what you were thinking for shower floor tiles, as they will have an impact as well and should connect with blue tile and bathroom floor. I‘d start looking at different combinations and that should help with decision re dark blue tiles - may see a combo you like better.

You could just add the blue on the feature wall in shower, so it doesn't feel as cave like and use your floor tiles on the other walls (if suitable) and floor tile per above pebble look.

Generally, I’d head towards a more organic look and hold off on your painting, as white may be nicer than grey.

Just a suggestion, look for a non matching mirror for more interest.

use the blue as an advent wall in the shower and do the other shower walls with the tile you have above the blue?

The current trend is so light/white/neutral it is absolutely refreshing to see someone not terrified of using some color in their home, even if it is just a basement bathroom.

I find that most people like colors that look good on them - we are vain and like looking good. If you look good in blues and like blues you are not likely to quickly change your mind.

I will tell you that I am planning to paint my basement with a deep purple gray and lime/iguana green - decorating with art from my trip to Costa Rica and some amazing frog prints that I purchased years ago and could never find the right place to hang them.

Basements can be the place where we dare to have fun.

I like the tile, but agree with Patricia that it does not have anything in common with your other colors. I would decide what I like better, the muddy green or the deep blue. Go from there.

thanks all. I should clarify that the other colors in the picture with the vanity are not in my scheme (it's a stock photo from the vanity website. white walls, the upper L tile floor, and the light oak vanity.
